Awarding Those Who Matter

Awarding Those Who Matter

This week PB’s Joe Mahoney gives a brief update on the forthcoming Freelancer of the Year Awards and networking event.

Many thanks to all the production companies and freelancers that have sent in their nominations to this year’s Freelancer of the Year Awards. The response has been fantastic and has made the selection process for the judges a real headache – but we wouldn’t want it any other way!

We are delighted to welcome on board our sponsor, Sony Professional Media, who have graciously offered up prizes worth a few thousand pounds to the category winners.

I think it’s important to remind people why we do this; so many production people miss out on the usual gongs that are handed out every year via the well established ceremonies. Of course, richly deserved though they are, many talented and hard working people simply don’t get a look in.

I think what makes our awards unique is the diverse range of entrants – from the runner to the seasoned producer being nominated by their peers. We hope in some way, our event redresses the balance.

A new award category introduction is the Production Company of the Year – it was felt by many of you that not only were you honoured to be working with some great companies, making superb programming but they were also fantastic employers and that they should be recognised for it. And we agree!

The nominees will be announced next week so check the website for the latest news.

Of course, the awards itself is just one part of the evening. The networking aspect has proved to be very popular with freelancers as a way of really connecting with each other – whether that is discussing job opportunities, seeking career advice or simply making new friends.

So, whether you’re up for an award or simply looking to network, we look forward to seeing you next month for what I’m sure will be a fun night for all.
