Media Researcher

Central London

This is a role demanding a vast skillset and excellent organisational skills. The successful applicant will be across a range of stories from the start of the day, working on both tasks for the day and on archiving previously used material. They will also assist with co-ordination of work and the scheduling of the technical services needed by the newsroom.
The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with news teams, tech crews and make contact with content owners to negotiate use of their work. They will also be responsible for some of the live bookings and feeds coming into the newsroom and must always know at which stage any incoming material is.
They will be expected to problem solve and be proactive in achieving editorial objectives with limited resources. The successful applicant will be able to maintain personal effectiveness in the times of pressure, setbacks or when dealing with tough situations. They will be able to work unsupervised and make decisions in a busy newsroom environment.
The role requires someone who is ready to take on responsibility and work unmanaged in busy situations. This person will be central to the workflow in the newsroom and must be prepared to work on their own, and as part of a team.

• Basic video editing skills are beneficial, prior experience in a newsroom environment would be desirable but not essential
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Sourcing video and images from agencies/content owners/social media
• Forward planning for the day in terms of incoming video
• Setting up recordings and feeds from a variety of outside sources
• Participating proactively in the planning, organising, booking and coordination of bureaux and third party providers facilities
• Informing staff on any usage restrictions on incoming media
• Being familiar with different technical systems, including news production systems & showing a willingness to learn how to operate new systems and to be able to adapt to different working methods
• Working closely with the production team to manage the efficient use of news gathering resources including costs
• Communicating effectively with the newsroom to keep them informed of progress and to clarify production requirements
• Storing and tagging all archive video for future searches; working unprompted to ensure all ingested video is archived
• Searching through local and remote archive for material
• Communicating with senior output staff on video ingesting, procurement and searches
