Director of Social Media

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Social Media to join the Social & Online team on a fixed term basis.

The Director of Social Media is responsible for the social media strategy, presence and output across UKTV's network of channels: UKTV Play, Dave, Drama, Yesterday, W, Alibi and Gold. This includes owned, earned, and paid activity including influencer marketing, as well as the monetisation of social media audiences, where possible, through social AVOD activity. In addition to strategy, the role also brings excellent operational experience and knowledge to ensure the team is operating efficiently and effectively, in line with UKTV policy and social media best practice.

The Director of Social Media will also lead, coach and inspire the in-house social media team of 17 social media experts, driving learning and development and fostering a culture where the team can perform at their very best.

As an integral member of the Marcomms Leadership Team (MLT), Director of Social Media will work in partnership with other functional leaders within Marcomms, to shape, review, inform best practice, drive operational and organisational efficiency and effectiveness and build capability in line with company strategy and direction.

The role will also collaborate closely with BBCS, UKTV's parent company, to ensure collaboration on social media activity when needed and appropriate, as well as represent UKTV externally in industry forums. The role will also build and maintain strong relationships with social media platforms, identifying opportunities where possible to elevate UKTV's approach to social media to position UKTV at the forefront of innovation.

Lead and manage a high performing team, creating an environment which drives focus on social media targets and social-first thinking

We are looking for someone who has:
A deep knowledge of the social media landscape, specifically YouTube, Meta, X and TikTok, with the ability to translate business objectives into robust social media strategy and plans
Experience of leading and motivating a team whose focus is to build, nurtures and grow social media fandoms and communities
Experience in leading and managing social AVOD activity, with strong understanding across commercial, operational and legal to drive revenue across platforms
Experience in 360 marcomms campaigns, with evidence of collaborating with multiple business areas towards a shared goal
Leading the team to deliver a data and analytical approach

Who you are:

A commercial leader with extensive experience in a senior management role, including budgetary and/or P&L responsibility
Passionate about social media and the role it delivers within marcomms and business
An excellent communicator & influencer, building strong relationships with stakeholders, at all levels
A strategic thinker, with the ability to ensure the social approach links directly to business goals
A strong collaborator
A proven track record of leadership, developing people and creating culture that allows the team to thrive
An advocate for data-first thinking
Ability to gather complex commercial data, insight and intelligence and utilise it to future proof commercial strategy
High motivation, able to work autonomously as well as in a close team and cross-departmental teams
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, recognise their relative strategic/financial value and prioritise accordingly
High levels of personal resilience and confidence
A track record of being creative, pragmatic and solutions-oriented
High degree of computer literacy and advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
