Deputy Political Editor

London

The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis on the UK and the world. We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation's cultural heritage.

We are seeking a deputy political editor to join our team at Westminster.

The Sunday Times is world-renowned for its informed and insightful politics coverage. The deputy political editor works as part of our team in the Lobby generating political exclusives that lead the news agenda, as well as covering the Westminster diary. They are also required to step up when the political editor is unavailable.

Day to day you will:
Bring in exclusive stories that inform and engage our readers on all platforms
Have excellent contacts across all political parties
Have the ability to write with authority and command the respect of our readers and those within the political arena
Represent The Sunday Times on radio, television and other media, especially our own internal stations
Attend politics conference
Deputise for the political editor on a regular basis
Commission and contribute to digital packages that increase engagement and support subscriber growth
Have a strong knowledge of social media and an ability to use it to increase our readership
Successfully manage a productive relationship with the editor of The Sunday Times and department heads

What we're looking for from you:
Strong contacts in politics and a proven ability to bring in exclusive stories
Experience in digital and a commitment to growing our digital audience
Ability to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively
Experience and commitment to working collaboratively
Strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
