Technical Operations Engineer

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Technical Operations Engineer to join our Content Services department.

Content Services is ITV's in-house content services provider, receiving and processing media files ready for archive, VOD and broadcast, as well as external clients. The Technical Operations team within this department are responsible for supporting and driving the advancement and efficiency of all the technology and workflows used within the department using tools such as Telestream Vantage, Grass Valley Alchemist, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, IBM Aspera etc.

The role

The successful Technical Operations Engineer will work with the wider Content Services and Content Library department to explore and integrate new technologies and processes, as well as ensuring that the current technologies are in working order.

Some Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

To be the first line of support for the wider Content Services department by problem solving, troubleshooting and carrying out basic maintenance wherever possible to ensure uninterrupted service.
Working closely with the rest of Content Operations as well as Creative, Content Management and Global Distribution amongst other stakeholders and clients to ensure content is transferred, transcoded and delivered where and when required.
Suggest and explore new technologies and processes to drive improvements throughout the department.
Providing support to facilitate the transfer of all media assets to a variety of formats maintaining the highest possible technical standards.
Ensure technical faults are escalated to the Technical Operations Manager as appropriate.
Ensure housekeeping practices are maintained on all storage devices.
Train the Content Services operational team on any new technology, equipment, process or workflow.
Provide support to the Technical Operations Manager. Excellent standard of work and a passion for the role, department and company are key in this role along with a desire to grow the business.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

The ability to manage stressful situations and ensure the teams are supported and guided through issues that arise.
Understanding of common file delivery methods and transcoding processes to ensure standards and client requirements are met.
Technical Quality Checks to be carried out on content in order to ensure highest quality of work is provided.
A high level of understanding of the Broadcast and Online standards and formats/equipment and computer-based editing systems.
Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach and to cross disciplines as and when required; adapting to changing priorities & requirements and revising working practices to deliver innovative solutions.
Willingness to undertake training in emerging technologies as appropriate and share experience and working knowledge with colleagues to maximise the team's capability. Ability to analyse and solve work-related problems in an effective way, finding solutions to previously un-encountered problems.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers both within and outside of ITV.
Good organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
There will be an element of stakeholder management so excellent communication skills are essential.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

Experience with media file formats is vital, with particular respect to broadcast and/or VOD formats.
A good understanding of transcoding workflows and related technology is desirable, as is some understanding of Cloud based practices such as AWS, and Python scripting.
