Job Summary:The Newsroom Archivist plays a key role in managing, preserving, and making accessible the rich audiovisual archive of Channel 4 News and ITN. You will work with historical and current news content, ensuring it is catalogued, digitised, rights-cleared, and accessible for internal and external use. Additionally, you will support live broadcasts by operating the auto cue system for Channel 4 News.Key Responsibilities Archiving & Content ManagementCatalogue news content, including bulletins, legacy material, and rushes, using standardised metadata and database systemsAssign copyright and usage rights to archived content, ensuring legal and commercial complianceUse Avid Newscutter and other digital tools to archive and edit contentCollaborate with newsroom researchers, producers, and the wider editorial team to source and archive relevant materialRespond to archive footage requests from internal stakeholdersPreservation & IntegrityEnsure proper storage, labelling, and handling of physical and digital archive materialsAssess authenticity and condition of historical items such as documents, images, and footageAuto Cue OperationOperate the auto cue during live and pre-recorded Channel 4 News broadcastsLiaise with production teams and presenters to ensure smooth, accurate delivery of scriptsMake live script adjustments when necessary and troubleshoot any technical issues under pressureThese are the main requirements of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. It is intended to reflect the nature, range, and context of the work, which will change over time.Key Requirements Prior experience in a newsroom or archive environment preferredProficiency in metadata standards, digital asset management, and archiving systemsFamiliarity with Avid Newscutter, newsroom production systems, and digital editing softwareExceptional attention to detail, grammar, and organisational skillsStrong understanding of copyright and intellectual property rights, especially regarding news and media footageSound general knowledge of UK and international current affairs and history spanning the past 60+ yearsComfortable operating in live broadcast environments and working under pressureExcellent communication and team collaboration skillsA degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Journalism, History, or a postgraduate qualification is desirable but not required
