The Times and Sunday Times are seeking a news editor to work with our team of award-winning reporters and deliver brilliant news stories for our Scottish audience.Applicants must have experience working either on a news desk or as a senior reporter at a national newspaper or major news organisation. You will have precise commissioning and copy-editing skills and strong expertise in Scottish current affairs and politics.You will be able to demonstrate your ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy. You must have an insatiable appetite for news and the skill to spot stories where others might miss them.Apply with your CV and a covering letter by April 30.Day to day you will:Successfully manage productive relationships with the acting Scottish editor, journalists in Scotland and the teams in LondonWork with editors, writers and reporters to conceive, commission and edit exclusive agenda-setting Scottish news stories for a print and digital audienceUse SEO and data tools to help guide commissioning and construct headlinesDemonstrate an understanding of what works best for digital, offering Scottish content that is truly distinctive Forward-plan, working with journalists on long-range projects and big campaignsUse social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote The Times and Sunday Times Scottish contentRepresent The Times and Sunday Times on radio and TV especially on our own internal stationsAssist the senior editorial team with management of reports and junior staff What we're looking for from you:Experience working as a news editor or senior reporter for a national newspaper or major news organisationDemonstrable interest in Scottish politics and current affairsAn understanding of how audience data supports commissioning and how to promote a story on social media and through search enginesKnows how to attract and retain new digital audiencesAn ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracyAbility to communicate succinctly and effectivelyExperience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solveA strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
