Wardrobe Assistant

London

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Regent's Park Open Air Theatre is seeking an experienced and reliable Wardrobe Assistant to join the Wardrobe Department for the 2026 season.
Working closely with the Head of Wardrobe, Dressers and the wider production team, Wardrobe Assistants play a key role in supporting costume preparation, maintenance and dressing across a busy and varied season of productions. This role requires a high level of organisation, practical costume skills and a professional, respectful approach to working backstage.

This role involves:
Wardrobe support and costume care
• Support the smooth day-to-day running of the Wardrobe Department for each production.
• Assist with the preparation, maintenance and repair of all costumes throughout rehearsals and performances.
• Attend run-throughs, production meetings, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and previews as required.
• Label and organise costumes prior to the first technical rehearsal.
• Monitor costume condition and promptly notify the Head of Wardrobe of any issues with wear and tear.

Laundry, dressing and performance support
• Carry out laundry duties as required, including hand washing, machine washing, line drying and tumble drying.
• Arrange the collection and delivery of dry cleaning where appropriate.
• Ensure all costumes are fully laundered, repaired and correctly placed n dressing rooms, on stage or in quick change areas by the half, or as directed by the Company Manager or Deputy Stage Manager.
• Assist company members with dressing requirements, including preshow preparation and quick changes during performances where required.
• Maintain clear and accurate dressing plots, contributing to the costume bible for each production.

Collaboration and professional practice
• Work collaboratively with Wardrobe, Stage Management and other departments to support the smooth running of rehearsals and performances.
• Respond flexibly and constructively to reasonable requests in support of the Wardrobe Department's work.
• Create and encourage a calm, respectful and professional backstage environment for cast and crew.
• Act in line with Regent's Park Open Air Theatre policies on safeguarding, sustainability, equal opportunities, and professional conduct.
• Promote equity, diversity and inclusion, contributing to a working environment in which all staff feel supported and empowered.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced wardrobe practitioner with
strong practical skills and a collaborative approach to working. They will
be calm under pressure, attentive to detail, and confident supporting
performers in a professional backstage environment.

Essential
• Previous professional experience working in a wardrobe department, with at least three similar professional credits on productions of a comparable scale.
• Strong attention to detail, with high standards of presentation and costume care.
• Proven proficiency in hand sewing and the use of sewing machines and overlockers.
• Experience dressing performers in a theatrical environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a wide range of people.
• Calm, organised and tactful approach to working in a live performance environment.
• Ability to work well under pressure, problem-solving independently and efficiently.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working.
• A professional and respectful approach to working with performers of all genders and in various states of dress.
• An understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
