Video Editor

Cardiff

We're on the prowl for a skilled, dedicated and creative video editor to join our team!

As a video editor at Storm & Shelter, you'll be responsible for working closely with our existing live-action and motion graphics teams (they don't bite, but they're definitely a bit odd) to ingest, edit, colour and deliver content for a plethora of clients across varied scales of production.

We recognise that a great edit and smooth workflow starts way before the first clip hits the timeline, so once you're assigned to a project by a producer, you'll be involved early on in the production process. Working alongside the creative team at the pitching stage, you'll use both your technical knowledge and creative flair to influence project-related decisions and pre-empt upcoming challenges.

When a production goes live, you'll be responsible for wrangling footage and other assets and setting up project files in accordance with our workflow procedures. Once briefed, you'll be tasked with editing a project from start to finish, taking feedback on board (without destroying company property in a rage, ideally) and actioning any changes as you go. You'll also get stuck into sound mixing and basic colour grading, often in line with a director's vision (whether you agree with them or not ??), but with the opportunity to leave your own creative stamp on your work.

You'll be working towards deliverables of differing lengths and purposes, intended for a multitude of platforms-from TV commercials to Instagram Stories and everything in between.

From time to time, you may be asked to come along to shoots in order to help out as DIT.

Required

A clear commitment to the craft of editing with experience in editing short, digestible content as well as longer-form work.
Highly proficient in using Adobe Premiere Pro for editing, sound and colour.
Confident jumping into Adobe After Effects to make basic animated titles and graphics.
A solid understanding of DaVinci Resolve and workflows for colour grading.
Advanced knowledge of the video encoding process, capable of managing custom presets in Adobe Media Encoder, and well versed in file formats and camera systems used in the industry (Canon, Sony, ARRI, RED).
Knowledgeable in modern workflows (ingest, proxies, VFX, sound, XMLs, round-tripping) and data management, with a deep respect for organisation, detail and redundancy.
Technical proficiency. A keen interest in all things technical, with an understanding of the components that make up an editing machine. An experienced troubleshooter that's comfortable in both Windows and macOS.
Committed to the process of finding the right music for an edit, with a good ear and a knack for combining audio with imagery to evoke emotion.
