Trainee Camera Operator

Carlisle

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It's a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

We are looking for a Trainee News Camera Operator to join our award winning team at ITV News Border.

Our Camera Operators provide first class camera and newsgathering skills, covering all aspects of our output both on screen and online. As a Trainee News Camera Operator you will work with our multi-skilled team providing technical, craft and operational skills across the news service.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills in all aspects of location newsgathering, both live and recorded. With training and guidance, you will develop your skills to shoot, collate, edit and send high quality footage, operate the News Production Vehicle and LiveU.

You will have a passion for live TV news production, particularly in a creative and operational capacity, and will want to offer ideas on how to cover a story as well as what stories we should be covering. The successful candidate should also have a keen eye for reflecting the diverse nature of the communities in the region we serve.

You will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly, flexible and approachable. You will share the responsibility in supporting programme production by having the willingness and aptitude to learn many new skills with appropriate training. Above all, you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure, able to digest and react to information efficiently. You'll also be a great representative of ITV in public.

Your rostered hours will include some evening and weekend working and you can expect to travel to locations across our region on a daily basis. Because of the nature of news production you will be required to work outdoors for long periods. There will also be occasions when you are required to work long and unsociable hours at short notice.

If you have a full driving licence, a passion for News & Technology and are looking to start your career or expand on your current skills and experience, this could be the perfect role for you.

Due to the weight of the equipment needed in this role, the successful candidate will be asked to identify any pre-existing medical conditions that may be exacerbated by carrying a camera and kit.

Please write a letter of application explaining your camera experience and why you want to work for ITV News Border and what you will bring to our team.
