Technical Director

London

The role will involve a balancing act in managing technical processes for the team and using technical skills to provide the necessary environment for project success. As well as managing the production workflows, and client facing with tournaments and the WTA, the Technical Director will work closely alongside the Head of Production to make sure all production standards are met.

This role includes, but isn't limited to, the following key aspects:

- Providing the production team with technical advice and support on a daily basis.
- Overseeing each Host Broadcast production from planning to completion, with an emphasis on technical soundness, high production values, partner collaboration and client support.
- Developing and revising statements of work and production schematics which should include accurate time and cost estimates.
- Working closely with the Production Management team in pre-tournament planning and ensuring that budgets are always adhered to.
- Direct liaison with Tournament Directors and their representatives in the planning stages.
- Attendance at any required site surveys - de-briefs and site reports to be compiled and distributed post survey.
- Required collaboration with the content team to refine and evaluate technical requirements and workflow strategies for content needs across the business.
- Constant on going requirement to research and propose new technologies to be used in Production and take the product onto the next level.

Day-To-Day Responsibilities

·Liaison with all relevant parties prior to tournaments and confirming their required facilities.
·Co-Managing all onsite facilities required for production with the Production Management team - TV compound set-up, power etc.
·Confirming Camera Positions (with the Director) and cable runs (with NEP and SMART) and fully documenting each plan.
·Ensuring all requested facilities are documented and passed onto all involved in the form of the Host Broadcaster manual.
·Working to bridge any gaps between the tournament, domestic broadcasters and the WTA.
·Finding economies of scale from a technical production perspective.
·Managing the required power supplies before and during event.
·Managing SMART Productions and their onsite requirements for Outside Court Production.
·Onsite technical management of the production rig - from camera to distribution.
·Working with the Broadcast team to ensure the correct match delivery to clients.
·Assisting with the setup and workflows of post-production on-site.
·Being across all internet bandwidth requirements in each production area.
·Attending Perform internal technical operations and workflow meetings.

Main Responsibilities on event

·Main technical point of contact for all people working onsite for WTA Media.
·Main technical point of contact for all tournament staff and any domestic broadcasters.
·In partnership with NEP the Technical Director ensures all equipment is safe for use, with all onsite staff working appropriately and safely with the Production Management team.
·Manage all and any technical facility issues.
·Makes sure all parties are informed of rigging schedule and any potential delays due to matches/practice on produced courts.
·Communicate to relevant parties' timings for Technical FACS and end to end tests ahead of first TX day.
·Managing production crew on-site.
·Provide fully detailed post tournament reports including pictures and workflow operations and recommendations for next year.

The Candidate Must Have

Interest and ability to travel 100+ days a year to International tennis tournaments
Significant experience within the broadcast industry
Experienced in project managing live outside broadcast productions
Can demonstrate supervisory/management capability
Excellent understanding of current digital and linear production
Interest and understanding of Sport production
