Technical Director

Feltham

OPPORTUNITY:

The position requires an understanding of the creative and technical disciplines and thrives under the pressure. The ideal candidate will direct the live output of a fast paced shopping channel. You will be responsible for vision mixing up to 6 cameras, controlling the sound and lighting desks and managing recording play outs. To liaise with the studio assistant regarding grabs and recordings during live output. Report to Broadcast Manager on any issues that arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Broadcast


• Camera line up when required.
• Check and save pre-loaded shots on the shot selection screen.
• Attends the production meeting to identify and record all grabs that are required by producer, with assistance from the studio assistants.
• Identify and assist the Engineer with any technical issues prior to broadcast.

Broadcast

• Directs and vision mixes the live output following the editorial from presenter and producer.
• During broadcast maintain optimum video and audio levels.
• All VT clips, plasma loop and promo breaks are cued to air correctly
• Vision mix up to 6 cameras.
• Ensure correct product recordings are being played.
• Cross check the Promo live list prior to each promo break.
• Direct the Studio Assistants where required.
• Handover procedure to the MSO when taking breaks.
• Responsible for handing over appropriately to the next shift.
• Be available in any emergency that may occur during non-live hours.


1. General Knowledge and skills
¿ Educated to degree standard or equivalent preferred.
¿ Previous experience in same capacity/ job role required
¿ Knowledge of PC based packages and keyboard skills (ability to use MS Office).
¿ Verbal and written communication skills.
¿ Polite, friendly and assertive.

4. Functional Expertise
¿ Experience on Kayak vision mixer preferred.
¿ Ability to use video camera & pedestals
¿ Ability to manage DVE systems.
¿ Experience in talk back unit functions & microphones
¿ Experience in operating server systems for video clip recording and recall.
¿ Ability to operate studio lighting rigs & associated controlling equipment
¿ Knowledge of K2 video server
¿ Knowledge of composite, analogue, SD/HD signals.
¿ Understanding of teleprompter, preferred in broadcast in a live television

¿ Verbal and written communication skills including effective questioning and listening.
¿ Resourceful, adaptable and flexible in their problem solving approach.

6. Interpersonal skills
¿ An innovative approach may be required when working within the team to enable you to support fellow members.
¿ Ability to communicate at all levels.
