Technical Coordinator

Sky News is looking for an experienced, engaged and technically-minded individual to be based in London as part of the Technical Logistics Coordination Team-(TLC) working out of the Outside Broadcast Unit. This role provides the first point of call for Sky News & Sky Sports newsgathering teams in the field and the newsroom with regards to technical logistics.

We need an individual who is keen to regularly combine these skills with the wider News Operation teams based in the UK and around the World in helping to deliver the best possible visual journalism.

As well as contributing to providing 24/7 technical and logistical support, we are looking for a Technical Logistics Coordinator to also manage a variety of tasks in our News OB Unit and around the wider Sky campus.

You will:
Oversee and manage all aspects of daily technical logistics, support and kit requirements for all newsgathering teams around the UK and the World.
• Work closely alongside various technical departments including the cameras, field operations, newsroom technology, vehicle technology and security teams to maximize our ability to deliver strong and engaging visual news content, including for LIVE news events for all our news platforms.
• Carrying out kit preparation, testing, support, maintenance and R&D development alongside the Camera Technology team in order to maintain a high degree of readiness to respond to a wide variety of news stories, including deployment for "Breaking News", special projects and large events.
• Manage the camera "Master Kit list" and "TAS (Terror Attack Support)" kit for rapid deployment.
• Updating and maintaining the Sky News 'Open Individual Export Licence', which is a legal certificated log overseen by HMRC and used to show ballistics equipment and PPE being exported and imported in and out of the UK.
• Control and be responsible for the electronic key cabinet system for all equipment stores/lockers/cages and vehicles.
• Daily Goods In, Sky Studios collections/deliveries and kits runs into Central London. This could also expand to wider locations anywhere around the UK. Crew airport drop off/collections will also be a regular occurrence during any shift.
• Daily inspection of News Fleet and Sky Sports vehicles. External and internal inspections will be required regularly, as well as providing updates to the Head of Technical Logistics.
• Contribute to our important, established relationships with manufacturers and suppliers in order to keep Sky News/Sky Sports and its equipment up to date and compliant, as well as liaising with a selection of external companies who deal with everything from vehicle recovery to equipment hire and purchase.
This role requires:
A highly motivated self-starter who displays evidence of working as part of a team on technical and logistical projects. A reliable team player who displays flexibility and a willingness to adapt to any situation.
A keen interest of what makes high quality journalism and as well as enthusiasm to continually improve all aspects of the newsgathering process.
You'll have:
• Good understanding of the range of ENG cameras, lighting, audio and technical OB equipment.
• The ability to use the workshop facilities to build or repair basic broadcast equipment ie audio XLR cables
• Good IT skills
• Full UK drivers license and UK passport
The working week:
• A minimum 45-hour working week based on a rolling rota-pattern covering 7 days a week.
• 12-hour shifts, start times may vary.
