Supervising Producer, Audio

London

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a news junkie and experienced supervising producer for WSJ Podcasts to lead a small team of audio journalists producing a daily news podcast and news briefs for a fixed parental-leave cover period.

In this role, you'll assign stories, edit and approve scripts, and help produce and edit audio. You will tap into the stories of the Journal's newsroom, fact-checking and editing short and long-form scripts for multiple daily podcasts and news briefs with topics ranging from business and tech to personal finance and politics.

The job may also include booking guests and prepping interviews, developing story ideas and filling in on the mic when needed. This position requires a collaborative and player-coach mentality.

This is an editorial role leading our London-based audio team. A strong news background is essential for this job.

We're looking for someone with a startup mindset who is excited to wake up each morning to share important news and business stories with our globally minded audience.

You will report to the Journal's deputy editor of audio. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our London office.

You will:
* Lead a small team of audio journalists to produce a daily news podcast each morning, as well as oversee the publication of shorter news briefs each day
* Be able to work independently, leading the team in story pitching, booking guests, researching, fact-checking, and editing in the WSJ voice
* Offer editorial feedback and contribute to story generation and development
* Interview WSJ reporters and external sources, coaching those without audio experience
* Coordinate with the London-based video team to ensure collaboration
* Liaise with other leaders in the WSJ newsroom to coordinate news coverage
* Partner with audio engineers to ensure high-quality audio

You have:
* 7+ years working in a news or news-adjacent setting, preferably in business news
* 5+ years' experience in audio storytelling
* Experience leading and managing a small team
* Experience fact-checking and editing audio scripts, both before and after recordings
* Calmness under pressure and the ability to switch gears and react to breaking news
* An ability to manage multiple projects at once
* Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
* Experience communicating with and booking talent
* Proficiency in cutting and mixing tape for audio publications using Descript and either Pro

Tools or Audition
* Experience working in multiple audio formats and styles
* Knowledge of podcast platforms and distribution
* Experience with field recording and hosting on-mic is a plus
