First broadcast in 1958, Blue Peter is the world's longest-running children's show, loved for its presenters, pets, competitions, campaigns, and iconic crafts. The Blue Peter film team create short-form VTs for the show, shot across the UK and delivered against tight deadlines. We look for experienced Researchers who are confident in shooting, scheduling, planning and location scouting. We also, specifically, look for candidates who are digitally native, and able to emulate styles familiar on platforms like YouTube while maintaining high production values and adhering to editorial guidelines.WHY JOIN THE TEAMThe Blue Peter film team consists of 2 x Researchers and 2 x Directors who work from our offices in Media City, Salford. Blue Peter Film Team Shooting Researchers share the show's passion for excitement and discovery. From spending a night in a haunted house with Danny Robins, to unearthing dinosaur bones in Canada, and racing supercars at breakneck speed, they bring bold, high-stakes content to life every week.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:The Blue Peter Shooting Researchers play a crucial role in supporting on-location filming. This is a dynamic, hands-on position suited to those who thrive in fast-paced environments and can adapt quickly to last-minute changes. Working in close collaboration with Directors and production teams, the Shooting Researcher is responsible for coordinating day-to-day shoot setups and managing logistical requirements to ensure smooth and successful filming.YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEESSENTIAL CRITERIA:Experience operating or supporting camera work, particularly with Sony FX6, to enhance filming quality and flexibility.Proven experience assisting with day-to-day shoot setup and logistics, ensuring smooth operations.Strong practical experience on shoots, showcasing adaptability and problem-solving skills under time-sensitive conditions.Ability to adapt quickly and manage challenges on location, maintaining composure and delivering solutions in high-pressure situations.Must be able to drive and be confident driving a range of vehicles. DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:Background in casting and location coordination, supporting wider production needs beyond core shooting responsibilities.Comfort with occasional office-based tasks, while maintaining a primary focus on on-location filming and shoot support.Experience working with children.Experience using a range of kit, from gimbals to go-pros and drones.
