Series Editor - BBC Regional Politics Programme

The Series Editor has overall editorial responsibility for a weekly political television programme, ensuring it delivers authoritative, impartial and engaging coverage of regional and local politics. The role leads the editorial team from planning through transmission, setting the programme agenda and ensuring compliance with BBC Editorial Guidelines, the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, media law, and election law..

Key responsibilities include:
• Leading a small team producing a 30min weekly political discussion show for BBC One London.
• Set the editorial agenda for each programme, selecting discussion topics and commissioning filmed reports and investigations.
• Decide the running order, editorial priorities and treatment of stories.
• Book politicians, commentators and other contributors to ensure a balanced range of voices.
• Work closely with the presenter to develop interviews and lines of questioning.
• Outputting the pre-recorded 'as live' programme from the gallery on a Friday (and occasionally live on a Sunday morning), taking final editorial responsibility during recording or live transmission.
• Writing scripts, commissioning graphics, building running (OpenMedia), basic video editing (Qcut/Qedit) and oversee the preparation of rundowns and production paperwork.
• Ensure all output complies with BBC Editorial Guidelines, the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, media law and electoral law.
• Work collaboratively with BBC News, online and social teams to maximise the impact and reach of stories across television, digital and social platforms.
• Identify exclusive stories and develop original journalism that serves regional audiences.
• Manage budgets, schedules and staffing to deliver programmes safely and efficiently.
• Coach and develop production staff, fostering high editorial standards and creative programme-making.
