Senior Technical Producer

Birmingham

Media Operations is one of two main departments within the Technology & Media Operations Group. Media?Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online. Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart.


Working closely together with our news, sport and content colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily. The team is also responsible for the management of production services, stores, and some audio, fleet vehicles and OB bases in England.



Interview process

Main Responsibilities


As a Senior Technical Producer for the Popular Music radio networks in the Media Operations team you will be key to ensuring our live and pre-recorded programmes make it to the audience. The role will support production teams across internal and external suppliers in delivering world class programming, providing technical production expertise for a wide range of situations including the most complicated and demanding productions in order to realise editorial ambitions.
You will relish working in a fast-paced environment and be able to prioritise tasks quickly to ensure the continuity of the services we support. Tasks will range from devising workflows, maintaining technical production systems/kit and driving broadcast desks to put outside broadcasts to air through to delivering training, scheduling pre-recorded programmes in Dira Autoplayer and taking responsibility for ad hoc projects.



We would look for you to be an active participant in fostering a learning culture throughout Popular Music which promotes best practice and technical excellence. You will be resilient, highly motivated and be able to remain calm under pressure. You will have a passion for the editorial content of the Popular Music services and be a team player as well as being able to work on your own.



Whilst the job is in the main Mon-Fri work pattern, you'll occasionally work late/early shifts and weekends and bank holidays as determined by the editorial demands of the Popular Music services.

We focus on hiring for potential at the BBC, so the main requirement for the position is a strong testing mindset.

Some of the things we love:

· Extensive operational experience and knowledge of production processes and the technical requirements needed to deliver programmes on the required platforms including experience of using Dira software, automation and playout
· Experience and understanding of production requirements on location at outside broadcasts
· Extensive knowledge and experience of radio studios and/or outside broadcast operations, ideally including having proven experience with driving Studer and/or DHD broadcast desks
· Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations and an ability to operate to and communicate safe working practices in the workplace and on outside broadcasts
· Proven experience in being able to use skills creatively to devise solutions to complex technical problems in live broadcast situations
· Excellent aural judgement
· Demonstrable knowledge of the output of the Popular Music radio services
· Ability to manage resources within financial and technical constraints
