We're the experts in what we do and everyone is valued for what they bring to their role.What we need!As a senior member of the sound team in Picture Shop Media City, you will work closely with production teams, other craft members and in partnership with BBC Sport Technical Operations Management, to plan and deliver BBC Sport audio and communications for programme output across BBC network television channels, BBC news, iPlayer, Red Button and web streaming. This is not an Audio Post Position/Audio Engineer position. *Interviews will include a practical assessment, interviews will be conducted in person at Media City Salford - where this role is based*What we need you to do! Prior to a production, you will liaise with resource managers, production teams and operations colleagues to identify and agree the most appropriate sound requirements and solutions. At all stages of a production you will be required to show leadership and responsibility for the output of your team.You will be required to attend planning meetings with BBC Sport to establish the sound requirements for each production, contribute to crewing levels with the Picture Shop bookings team, equipment requirements and advising on call times and necessary preparation time ahead of a transmission date.You will design and deliver resilient and effective audio and communication work flows to best serve production, talent and operations colleagues on each production and troubleshoot all sound related items where necessary.You will work across the main Sound Supervisor roles in the gallery - Guarantee, Mixer, ISDN, Grams, Sub-MixerTo provide information and be a source of advice for producers and production managers around options for productions, choices of provision and any aspects of technology around their broadcast aspirations. To work with the Heads of Production to assess the technical viability of content ideas, identifying and mitigating any risks, and alerting production to financial implications.Ensure compliance with legislation, Picture Shop and BBC Policies and Health and Safety regulations across all our operational areas in order to promote a safe working environment.Other DutiesRecommend training, deliver training and play a key and influential role in staff career development to create a common sense of purpose, motivate the team and ensure that staff are deployed in a way that maximises their effectiveness.Keep abreast of industry developments and new technology. Share knowledge and experiences with colleagues. Be proactive, seek out, recommend and adopt more effective techniques, ways of working and best practices to drive efficiencies and deliver value for money.What Experience we're looking for!Demonstrable experience in television broadcast sound, particularly in the role of a Sound Guarantee.Thorough understanding and extensive experience of production processes, live audio mixing styles, and technical requirements needed to deliver single location events to air with either a studio or remote presentation, gained from hands on experience and excellent aural judgement.Familiarity with Calrec audio mixing consoles.Experience of designing Riedel digital communication system configurations and making online changes in live transmission environments. Must have practical experience and technical understanding of working with multiple simultaneous live audio feeds, and the systems typically used in the sport broadcast paths. This must include multi-channel and immersive audio formats.Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to generate detailed and accurate technical drawings and documentation.Ability to understand and interpret production requirements and manage expectations.A calm, clear headed and quick thinking approach, even under pressurized live situations, allowing well judged, prioritised and informed decisions to be made that reflect wider workflows and impacts.A flexible approach to working hours and days.The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.The ability to communicate effectively at all levels.DesirableFamiliarity with broadcast system control systems.An understanding and some experience of the technical requirements around large multi-location sporting events, such as The Olympic Games or other large scale sporting tournaments.
