We are highly valued in ten thousand schools for the quality and integrity of our digital content.You will be the Producer of our News services for our core products and services. As such, you will play a key role in assuring the quality and integrity of our content. You will be responsible both for the day-to-day editorial excellence and accuracy of our news output. In addition, you will be asked to review video scripts and edits at an approval stage.Job overviewThe post-holder will have editorial responsibility for daily and weekly news services, and for the production of topical and curriculum content videos. The post-holder will line manage the assistant news producer and senior video editor.You will have an up-to-date rich contacts book, and will be fully conversant with self-shooting and editing technologies and disciplines. You will be hands-on, and will be able to seamlessly switch between a quick location shoot, working alongside an editor on creating a new video, and advising on scripts for a set of videos designed to explain multiplication to seven year olds - perhaps all on the same day. You will need to be an excellent writer and script editor, and used to managing competing priorities and deadlines.A key aspect of this role will be liaison with other departments within the company and with education stakeholders beyond: you will need to work closely with the production, technical development, partnerships and marketing teams, and will need to be a strong communicator to ensure that senior management and the wider company are kept informed of developments in news services, and the value that they add. You will also be expected to play an active part in promoting the company's mission and services, and to keep informed of any external developments which might present market opportunities or impact on the company's strategy, through school visits and presentations to schools. You may represent the company at industry events.ResponsibilitiesSpecific responsibilitiesTo oversee and actively lead the production and development of news resources for Discovery Education in Europe, including Discovery Education Espresso.To be the senior sign-off point for all aspects of news production at Discovery Education UK, including shooting and dubbing scripts, and fine cut.Reporting to the Head of Publishing, DE (UK).To work with a team of producers on the video element of curriculum content and encourage the development of creative, high quality broadcast standard video.To be the day-to-day Producer for all DE UK news services.To encourage and organise training for staff involved in video and news production.To produce in person promotional material and to oversee the external production of other videos required for projects funded by external clients..To support other areas of the company outside production in their videos requirements; Coding, Professional Development, Marketing.To liaise and share with colleagues in the US and Discovery Networks International in Chiswick to make best use of resources and develop new content.RequirementsKey skills and experience requiredEvidence of the following is required:A minimum of five years' experience of work in busy broadcast news video environmentsWriting and editing news stories for a young audienceA proven track record in digital deliveryWriting and producing digital video work for a target audience of children or young people.Experience of managing internal and external staffHighly desirable:Experience of producing formal educational contentAn understanding of the schools' digital video market in the UKProven experience of adapting/re-versioning products from other countries to UK market needsBased: Hammersmith, with ad hoc travel requirements around the UK
