Senior Dailies Operator

London

Positioning of Role: This role is dedicated to supporting the dailies creation process within the Front-End department. Primarily focused around metadata management, media wrangling, QC and colour pipeline, the operator will assist all Front-End team members with tasks for a variety of concurrent project. The operator will have a working understanding of the on-set and dailies processes, including knowledge of the latest camera file formats, ability to configure and support hardware/software across Windows/Unix systems and ideally, knowledge around the role of a DIT and VFX pulls.

The Front-End team interact with DI, VFX and Data IO, effectively being the hub for a lot of projects. Understanding the colour journey from many cameras is essential. Flexibility is required on being able to operate multiple platforms and pick up knowledge where needed.

PROFILE
* An in-depth understanding of Post Production workflows is essential
* Advanced technical knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
* Dailies - Colorfront On Set Dailies/Filmlight Daylight, colour management, onset environments, DITs, Lookup Tables, DI pipelines flowing from onset factors, ACES
* Editorial - Avid Media Composer, metadata management, shared storage management, EDLs/CDLs etc
* VFX Pulls - Baselight, Colorfront On Set Dailies / Transkoder, VFX workflows, colour pipelines etc
* A knowledge of some/all of the following applications would be advantageous: Avid Media Composer, Colorfront On-Set Dailies/Express Dailies, Fimlight Baselight/Daylight, DaVinci Resolve
* Comprehensive knowledge of operations, systems, equipment and software used within the assigned area
* Problem Solver / Able to troubleshoot technical issues
* Attention to detail
* Great communication skills
* Able to work alone or as part of a team and manage the priority of tasks.
* Experience dealing with high profile clients.
* A willingness to learn and stay on top of the latest technology and colour science developments.
* Able to work ad hoc weekends, nights and additional hours and out of hours support as required and to travel based on individual project requirements.

EXPECTATIONS
* Works with the Technical Support Manager, assisting with technical set ups, project maintenance, testing and ad hoc projects where applicable.
* Works with high profile clients, delivering a complete dailies service. Must be adaptable to the clients' needs, working hours and locations where applicable.
* Matches hardware and software with operational requirements, supported by the Technical Support Manager and worldwide support.
* Keeps updated on new technologies, industry/market trends, software, versions and formats, making recommendations to improve workflows and advance Technicolor's competitive position.
* Troubleshoots and investigates issues directly and remotely, taking corrective action.
* Calibrates in-house and on-location video monitors in compliance with Technicolor and industry standards, for which training will be provided.
* Updates and maintains the inventory of hardware, software and licenses. Implements / manages technical infrastructure and oversees installations and upgrades. Complies with all security protocols.
* Alongside the Technical Support Manager, shares and implements best practice and synergies with other facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist with the monitoring and completion of all technical aspects of projects. Perform the technical set ups for new projects. Working with the Technical Support Manager, assist with and contribute to technical discussions internally, with clients and with Editorial/VFX teams. Assist in the completion of technical specifications to meet all production requirements i.e. recognising software/hardware and rendering constraints, digital acquisition variables, new cameras. Check projects are technically correct within both OSD and Daylight systems and conduct testing to meet deliverable requirements.
* Calibrate monitors/non-consumer projectors to various industry standards, both in Technicolor facilities and on-location for DITs/VFX/Editorial. Assist in the training of other members of the FES team in the utilization of the tools required for this and development of practices and workflows surrounding monitor calibration.
* Perform technical fixes on hardware and software for assigned area. Under instruction of Technical and Departmental manager organise suppliers, support service providers and research / provide leasing options as required. Oversee and carry out support for installations locally and on location when necessary, investigating any issues that may arise. Liaise with 3rd party suppliers and manufacturers regarding upgrades and updates and liaise engineering to manage the smooth installation of hardware / software.
* Identify and log new and existing hardware and software resources. Working with the Technical Support Manager, maintain an inventory of hardware and software licences where applicable. Ensure all hardware matches operational requirements. Identify where newer versions are available, along with forthcoming industry/market trends and changing client requirements. Make recommendations to management for hardware and software changes. Assist with and support the supplier/vendor relationship directly or via other Technicolor facilities as required.
* Maintain relationships both internally and externally, communicating with other Technicolor facilities learning the best practices and working with the Technical and Departmental manager to maintain and implement best practices within the UK. Constantly research and keep updated with new and different technologies, software and formats, making recommendations to the Technical and Departmental managers to keep the business as an industry leader and ahead of competitors.
* Adhere to Technicolor's policies and standards for all operational areas. Comply with all security protocols for Technicolor's facility and on-set where applicable.

Hours of Work: Given the nature of feature/broadcast work, a flexible approach to work (able to work weekends, nights and additional hours in line with the Production schedule) is essential. The ability to travel for weeks / months within the UK and internationally is vital to this role.
