We're looking for a creative, talented Look Dev artist to join our Dark Rides team. If you are right for us, you are passionate about storytelling and love creating photorealistic characters and creatures.The Dark Ride project will be using cutting edge ride technology to create a completely believable feeling that our CG creatures and scenes are actually real. These are the most extreme entertainment experiences on the planet. Look Dev technical directors are responsible for producing look development and shading for high quality photorealistic CG assets to be used in high end VFX projects. We are looking for artists with availability from April 2019 for at least 12 months. Key ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with the VFX/CG Supervisors and Head of Department to determine the best approach to solving look development challenges and achieving the required lookCollaborating with other asset departments to ensure look development requirements are metSupporting the head of department with setup/development of new shading and lookdev methodsMaking sure that shading setups are efficient in order to optimise render-farm usageStaying on schedule and meeting set deadlines while maintaining the highest levels of qualityEssential SkillsPrevious experience in look development for VFX projects.Strong knowledge of physically plausible shading and rendering techniquesExtensive knowledge of either PRman, Arnold or similar raytrace based production renderersA good knowledge of lighting techniques and real-world lighting/photographyA good understanding of colour-spaceA basic knowledge of Nuke or similar compositing package, including how to use layers and passes to tweak a shot after it has been renderedGood all-round knowledge of other disciplines within VFX including: simulation, modelling and UV mapping, texturing and camera trackingExcellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skillsCreative problem solving and attention to detailAble to work well under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality resultsAble to work successfully as part of a team as well as independentlyReliable, with good timekeeping and the ability to meet deadlinesFlexible and adaptable with the ability to work within a pre-set workflow or pipeline but also with the creativity and problem-solving skills to work around issuesA thorough knowledge of MayaGood knowledge of Python and/or Mel scriptingA strong understanding of Linux/Unix based operating systemsDesirable SkillsExperience with digital paint software such as Photoshop, Mari and/or Substance PainterExperience and knowledge in modelling and texturing
