We are a global creative, production and distribution business, with a £2bn turnover and have ambitious growth plans.A small team within Global Operations, News Engineering are responsible for the suppliers and technology used to commercialise and distribute the BBC News channel to our affiliate customers and viewers across the globe. We work closely with our suppliers to deliver BBC News efficiently and robustly, by managing relationships and contracts, and deliver the changes and expansion our customers need.To support the Business' growth plans, we are now looking for a talented Senior Broadcast Engineers to help us scope, design, deliver and bring into operation, projects across Scheduling, Languaging, Content Supply, Centralised & Edge Playout, Encoding and Satellite & IP Distribution. The role will focus on the wider broadcast environment and focus on our Cloud and Internet-delivered services.Main ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Broadcast Engineer will work UK Office Hours but with occasional out of hours cover. Reporting into the Principal Technical Architect, they will work closely with the Engineering team, liaising with key Sales, Business and Projects leads, and work directly with Suppliers and Customers. Working in a fast paced environment, and around and on live broadcast services, accuracy and attention to detail is paramount.Key responsibilities will include contributing to the planning and design of new business requirements; working with suppliers to adapt existing solutions or to expand services; and delivering the expansion of our linear broadcast or Cloud playout and Internet-based distribution. This may range from launching a new customer or channel on an existing platform; delivering a change of technology or supplier system within a platform; through to the replacement of a legacy multi-customer platform.Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:Strong background in broadcast engineering or technical operations within a commercial environment.Experience leading the scoping, design, delivery or support of technical systems and services.Experience changing or delivering a solution across multiple suppliers.Experience of linear playout, and/or encoding and distribution, preferably tier 1 and live channels.Experience gathering customer requirements and communicating complex technical systems.Ability to structure and plan changes and wider projects with in-house and external teams.Experience leading the delivery of projects into BAU operation and support.Knowledge of IP networking and InfoSec fundamentals for broadcast environments.Ability to document and draw technical solutions, diagrams and test scripts.Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate:Experience of Subtitle and Audio Languaging processes.Knowledge of broadcast file formats and file delivery systems.Experience of AWS Cloud, Edge Playout and IP-based linear distribution.Knowledge of Codecs, DAI, SCTE104/35 and ad-insertion.Working Pattern: Hybrid Working (Home-based plus two/three days a week in the office).
