Script Editor

Manchester

We are looking for a Script Editor to start in June 2023 based in Manchester for Waterloo Road.

JOB PURPOSE
The Script Editor will work closely with the Producers, Writers and Production team to ensure that scripts are of the highest standard, conform to the editorial brief, and fit within the production remit and the broadcaster's editorial compliance. The Script Editor will act as a key point of contact between the writer and the production team, managing and building the relationship.

JOB CONTEXT
The Script Editor will lead the editorial process for their block of scripts. Starting at commissioning, they will contribute to discussions on how to achieve the stories and any issues that may arise. They will then work closely with the Writers to turn the various drafts around. Attending script meetings, taking accurate notes from Producers and briefing the Writer on changes and providing suggested solutions. During prep and production, they will liaise with the Producers and Directors, answering questions and agreeing changes to the scripts. Ensuring that the scripts have been neg checked and any research issues have been addressed.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 years' experience of script editing in a high-paced fast turnaround drama environment. They will also have a good understanding of story and structure and be confident in reworking stories when needed.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Script Editor will manage multiple blocks of 2 scripts from commissioning through production.
• They are responsible for all editorial processes on each draft, this includes attending editorial meetings, collating notes from multiple sources, and briefing writers.
• Working with the writers, they will generate story solutions, provide research support and help with specific knowledge on how to structure the Waterloo Road school day.
• Have a thorough understanding of the series and other scripts to ensure that there is good continuity between the episodes.
• Work closely with the production team to address any schedule, timing or other practical concerns that may arise during the production and shoot, including additions and cuts.
• Ensure the episodes are neg checked and meet BBC Editorial compliance standards.
• Ensure the scripts have been researched and where appropriate liaise with the researchers to fact check specific details.
• Issue scripts and amendments, ensuring the scripts have been proofed and formatted correctly (in conjunction with the assistant script editor).
• Provide cover for the Producers and other Script Editors where necessary.
• Act as a first point of contact for artists and directors in relation to script queries.
• Maintain the editorial vision of each episode.
• Work with the Assistant Script Editor to produce billings.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• At least 1 years' experience as a Script Editor in a high-paced fast turnaround drama environment.
• A good understanding of story and structure and confidence in reworking stories.
• Excellent attention to detail and written and verbal skills.
• Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritise workload.
• Resilient and able to work under pressure to deadlines, with strong communication, negotiation, influencing and persuading skills and able to manage difficult situations with sensitivity.
• Passionate about telling stories and an understanding of the Waterloo Road brand (knowledge of the series is desirable).
• Experienced using Final Draft
• An awareness of the financial implications of editorial decisions.
• Experience of working with new and experienced writers, as well as a thorough knowledge of potential emerging Talent.
