Do you have excellent communication skills? The RSC is looking for a Scenic Artist to join our small and creative team based at our workshops in leafy Stratford-upon-Avon. This role involves creating and painting scenery and props using a variety of techniques and finishes. This is a wonderful opportunity for a talented artist to work with some of the best designers in the theatre industry. You will be working on a diverse range of projects, creating scenery for multiple RSC stages, including the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Swan, The Other Place and our tours. The scenery we produce isn't limited to the stage, some is specifically designed and created for events and education projects. You will get to work on location as well as in our workshops. What does this role involve? • Learning and developing specialist knowledge and skills to create and deliver the required scenery. This includes, but is not limited to - painting, carving, texturing.• Assisting with alterations, maintenance and refurbishment• Assisting with the running of the workshop with adherence to health and safety regulations• Working with a variety of materials • Learning new methods and innovative thinking This position is key to the efficient running of the Scenic Art department, so we are looking for someone who:• Enjoys working collaboratively, supporting and assisting colleagues and creative teams• May already have some experience in creating scenery within theatre or similar environments• Is proficient in time management and working to deadlines• Has the ability to solve problems with a positive, solutions orientated outlookThis is a full-time, fixed-term position for a 12-month period, which offers an opportunity to learn and develop a wide range of skills.You will be working on average 44 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, although occasional weekend and evening work will be required.Application ProcessAll applications should be made online using the RSC website.
