Researcher / Research Assistant

Plymouth HYBRID

I'm currently seeking a research assistant to support the development and writing of some upcoming videos. This person will work alongside my video editor and I to make engaging videos about politics, history and culture.

The core of the role will consist of preparing research briefs to aid the development of two upcoming projects. Responding to a research brief, the successful applicant will identify and appraise journalistic, academic and other high-quality sources relevant to the project at hand.

The role will involve close collaboration with an enthusiastic, friendly team of two (the successful applicant will be team member number three!) in feeding-back on research progress and contributing to discussions about next steps. Outside creative meetings, the role will require an ability to work independently in undertaking high-quality desk research.

This job will suit someone who is inquisitive, loves learning new things and is passionate about history, culture and current affairs.

This is a two-week freelance position, with an attached fee of £1100.

The role will primarily be remote, although we can arrange co-working facilities for the successful candidate should they require it. Either way, the role will involve attending meetings in Plymouth.

The person we're looking for will...

* Have excellent research skills.
* Be proficient in identifying high-quality sources of information and analysis in the areas of politics, history and current affairs.
* Be confident in checking information and analysis against multiple sources.
* Be well-organised and comfortable working independently, with the ability to set their own schedule and appropriately prioritise tasks.
* Have excellent communication skills, with an ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.

Additional desired skills and experience include...
* A degree or higher qualification.
* A keen interest in politics, culture, history and current affairs.
* Experience researching in an academic or journalistic context.
* A familiarity with YouTube as a platform including the culture of the site, audience expectations and current stylistic trends.

How to apply
Applicants are invited to submit a CV and covering letter giving an overview of their previous experience, why they would excel in this job and an outline of what interests them in this role.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a casual chat either in Plymouth or online.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 9th April 2024.
