Production Support CoordinatorFor half a century, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) has developed some of Britain and the world's top creative talent. It is widely acknowledged to be the top school of its kind in the UK and one of the best internationally. In 2018, the NFTS was awarded both the BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema and the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education.The Production Support Coordinator role at the NFTS is a unique opportunity to assist the Head of Production to ensure the smooth delivery of student productions and workshops at the NFTS.The NFTS makes more than a hundred and fifty film, television and games projects each year. The School is a full-service studio with the resources in house to produce and complete work to the very highest standards. Many of these projects play leading festivals around the world and win internationally significant prizes.The successful candidate will have experience of overseeing budgets and supporting productions, along with excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines. This role would suit someone with an interest in production management and an analytical mindset. Applicants need to be excellent communicators possessing strong interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for working with young people at the start of their careers.Purpose of roleTo assist the Head of Production to schedule and deliver student productions and curriculum workshops, both through deputising and providing accurate and timely support to students, tutors and other members of the Production Support team. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:1) Working with Head of Production to assist in all duties to ensure the smooth running and efficient operation of systems to enable delivery of student productions and workshops including:a) Managing the School's Workplace system to ensure students, tutors and curriculum teams have access to up to date and correct documentationb) booking and contracting crew and technical staff - negotiating rates and ensuring all necessary paperwork is in place including MO's, Risk Assessment, insurance documentation where applicablec) Support students in preparation and presentation of budgets for productions - advising on efficient methods of production to ensure cost effectiveness and best use of fundsd) Support students on preparation of Risk Assessments with particular attention on their ambition and plans to ensure they are approaching their production from the point of view of working safely and with due care and consideration to safe working practices, production insurance and HSE guidelines.e) Working with students to ensure budget expenditure is monitored and productions remain on budget f) Dealing with staff and student queries and requests for assistance on graduation, film and workshop projects. g) Under the direction of the HoD, advise on requirements in relation to clearance of music and archive for use in student films, ensuring correct paperwork is issued and signatures obtained to assist in closedown of productions and final delivery paperworkh) Work with HOD to ensure shooting spaces including the Stages are used to maximum capacity and efficiency - manage the stage ensuring any health and safety issues are addressed, liaise with facilities to ensure any servicing of equipment is carried out when needed and ensure shooting spaces and stages are kept clear and tidy at the end of each shoot and before next shoot startsi) Dealing with insurance claims arising from loss or damage to production equipment and to 3rd party claims on the production. j) Liaise with NFTS insurers regarding any notifications for specific insurance requirements such as vehicle drivers, foreign travel etc......2) Any other reasonable duties as required.Person Specification Essential • Previous experience overseeing budgets and supporting production• Excellent organisational skills including the ability to work to tight deadlines• Close attention to detail• Numeracy and analytical skills • Strong IT skills, in particular excel • Ability to work as a member of a team and to show initiative• Interest in management of production - in particular clearances, cost management, H&S, scheduling, crewing, insurance• Good line management skills• Good oral and written communication skillsDesirable • Previous experience in film or TV production • Some experience in financial and contractual areas of production
