BBC Wales Sport is a multi media, multi platform, bi-lingual operation. We produce content for BBC Iplayer, Sounds and Linear TV and Radio, as well as a busy 7 day week operation, delivering a comprehensive sports news service and live sport for online and social platforms.We are looking for an experienced Production Manager. This is a part time post for a period of six months. The Production Manager manages on a day-to-day basis, in partnership with their editorial colleagues, one or more productions and/or a portfolio of content which includes regular live Sports Outside Broadcast activity.Working to the Editor of Sport, the Managing and Assistant Editors, the successful candidate will be required to forecast, monitor and control production spend of the department. They must be familiar with BBC internal and external cost processes and have a detailed understanding of production budgets.The role will require the Production Manager to regularly present updates and reports to senior management.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities * Accountable for approving, setting, adjusting and monitoring a portfolio of budgets within a slate, and assessing financial viability of new content ideas. * Responsible for preparing, managing and monitoring production (and IT) budgets, and for forecasting and reporting progress in line with best practice. Contributing to and assessing financial viability of content ideas that may arise during production. * Contributes to the commissioning and setting up of productions, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned. * Responsible for scheduling, budgeting and managing the production(s) process through to delivery in line with divisional requirements. * Ensures compliance with BBC policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements, in order to minimise the BBC's exposure to risk and to deliver value for money through effective and efficient management of people and resources. * Accountable for approving, setting, adjusting and monitoring a portfolio of budgets within a slate, and assessing financial viability of new content ideas. * Contributes to development of operational and commission funding strategy linked to the division's long-term multi-platform content strategy, highlighting and mitigating areas of risk.Knowledge, Skills, Training & ExperienceEssential * Demonstrable business and finance skills, able to create, forecast and manage significant production resource and budgets. * Current knowledge of the BBC and the wider industry. * Considerable experience of delivering a range of productions including live, across a range of output or genres, on time and on budget. * Demonstrable working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a level of technical understanding to enable the most efficient production of content. * Effective project management skills and proven experience of delivering projects. * Detailed knowledge of commissioning and green light procedures in order to guide the processes, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned. * Able to manage interpersonal relationships effectively and operate with others in a diverse team. * Record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments. * Demonstrates strong organisational and planning skills and manages conflicting demands to meet deadlines. * Equipped to interpret an editorial brief, explain commissioning requirements and suggest ideas for maximising the value from productions. * Able to proactively devise new ideas for working more efficiently. * Strong negotiating skills, able to influence, manage and negotiate deals and contracts in line with BBC policies and guidelines. * Thorough knowledge of the market for various types of supplier and resources. * Experience of supervising or line managing of Production StaffDesirable * Recognised formal health and safety training (including risk assessment).
