The Thomson Reuters Foundation is seeking a talented, creative, high-energy video producer/editor, with a documentary background, strong research/journalistic skills, a keen visual sensibility, shooting and design skills to help our team create unique short documentaries and multimedia pieces that have impact and bring under-reported human rights issues to light, as well promotional videos for the Foundation.Candidates should combine documentary and observational filmmaking experience with a strong journalistic sensibility. You should be able to conduct interviews with insight and sensitivity and film hand-held observational scenes with confidence and discretion.You will be part of a small multimedia team that works with Thomson Reuters Foundation's award-winning journalists to create short documentaries on human rights, trafficking and slavery, land rights, climate change, and other humanitarian topics. The team also makes promotional/explanatory videos about the Foundation and its work and for the Foundation's conferences and awards.Our producers do it all, from research and development through every aspect of production, post-production, and outreach and social media. You will be involved with day-to-day production tasks related to our website and video channels, help come up with and research local stories and find strong characters, and keep track of ideas coming in from our journalists and freelancers around the world. You be editing stories that come in from freelancers and reporters in the field. You will be part of the team responsible for all the videos used in and made from our annual Trust Women conference. You will also be expected to come up with strong original ideas that you can shoot and edit either as part of a team or on your own.Other tasks will include coordinating global shoot logistics, managing freelancers logistics and payments, training journalists on shooting for multimedia pieces, maintaining video equipment and facilities, managing media, handling administrative tasks, conducting photo and video archive research, creating video promos and teasers for social media, and working to build our video audience. Photo research is particularly important in the Foundation.You should be technically competent in all aspects of production, from shooting and recording sound to lighting to post-production. You will be a fast editor (Premiere + After Effects) with a good sense of story. You will have experience managing media and finishing videos for web export. Experience with photo and video archive research a plus - photo research skills particularly appreciated. Experience with the rest of the Adobe Suite programs a plus.A track record of successful outreach campaigns and video promotion is highly desirable.The position requires experience working with established production companies or media outlets and a desire to make a difference on humanitarian issues. Good communications skills (written and verbal) are essential, as is at least one additional language. Experience working abroad and editing in foreign languages an advantage. Driver's licence preferred.Responsibilities:Develop and edit strong documentaries for news.trust.orgAssist in daily production tasks and ongoing projectsWork with reporters and freelancers outside of the UK to develop stories and facilitate footage delivery, translations, etc.Conduct post-production tasks ranging from logging and transcribing to syncing, converting, and exportingResearch, source, and prep and edit video and picture archive materialWork with the communications team and other arms of the Foundation to create promotional materials, conference materials, etc., including photo researchHelp develop new ways to present and distribute Foundation videos online and via social media for maximum impactFilm interviews, events, and stories when requestedOther duties as assignedSkills:At least five years professional production experience, ideally including shooting/editing credits; PD, shooting AP, or editing experience for established independent production company or broadcaster preferredAble to meet deadlines and work under well pressureExcellent communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; experience dealing with sensitive topics and gaining trust of contributors; understanding of ethics of journalism dealing with the disempoweredExperience finding stories and charactersHighly organised, able to keep track of many projects simultaneouslySelf-starter, able to work individually and in teamsExperience working in fields of human rights, development, climate, an advantageAt least one language beyond English requiredExperience building social media followings a major plusUniversity degreeClips showing work you have directed or worked on, with clear indication of your role
