BBC Radio Ulster is the UK's most successful station by reach and share. It has a unique relationship with its audience and has created and developed a multi Sony award-winning daily strand, The Stephen Nolan Show.

We need an experienced and trusted journalist and all rounder who can help take "The Stephen Nolan Show" into a new phase and develop on-air, on demand and online content that reaches and engages the people of Northern Ireland and beyond.

We are looking for a highly motivated and editorially sound individual who can work confidently across platforms and programmes. You will be able to bring editorial insight to a wide range of content and engage presenters and other team members in achieving the maximum impact and value for what we do.

This role will demand the very best communication and people skills. You will need to show that you have the creative talent, enthusiasm and commitment to work on one of the most challenging jobs in the Northern Ireland media. Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines is essential, as is an informed interest in news and current affairs, particularly with regard to Northern Ireland.

You will be expected to be able to produce other Radio Ulster content and programmes when required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Reporting to the programme's Assistant Editor, to be responsible for the day to day production of "The Stephen Nolan Show", making sure that all support and "on-air" systems are properly in place and that clear communication with the broader team is upheld at all times

• To build a solid and trusted relationship with the Presenter, Assistant Editor and other members of the production team, providing first class leadership, direction and motivation

• To be involved in the forward planning of the programme and its daily editorial content, in accordance with the BBC Producer Guidelines, contributing and developing original, imaginative ideas and story items

• To carry out programme reviews with the Presenter, Assistant Editor and other members of the production team, ensuring that editorial briefs are being fulfilled

• To build up strong contacts which will advise/contribute to the show on a regular basis

• To work on and implement outside broadcasts and special themed programmes

• You may be expected to work in other areas of the Radio Ulster output where appropriate.

• To collaborate and work pro-actively with the trails, marketing and Press Department in achieving the promotional requirements of the programme

• To help the Assistant Editor in the process of responding responsibly and constructively to complaints from listeners and the Press

• To assist and promote the Nolan web presence, through the editorial and creative maintenance of the Stephen Nolan web site - bbc.co.uk/nolan

• To embrace new technology and new media ,and its application in programme making

• To maintain liaison with other areas of the BBC and outside bodies and organisations as appropriate to the programme

• To take responsibility for Health and Safety in line with BBC NI and Regional Broadcasting policy

Required Knowledge, Experience & Skills.

• Clear understanding of the Radio Ulster audience and its target audience and an awareness of the changing market place that Radio Ulster is in.

• Experience of production methods used in broadcasting and the ability to use technical and operational skills in radio. Online experience an advantage.

• Experience of working within a "live" radio environment.

• Strong writing skills and appreciation of journalistic law.

• Experience of dealing with problems, issues or complaints from internal or external stakeholders.

• Proven experience of leading and motivating a small team.

• An understanding and pro-active approach to marketing and promotions.

• A keen interest and knowledge of Northern Irish affairs, and an awareness of the needs and interests of regional and local audiences.
