Five Mile Films is looking for an assistant producer and/or producer (depending on experience) to work in our documentary department in Bristol. Five Mile Films is an award-winning independent television production company committed to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers from all backgrounds within a creative, supportive workplace.
We have produced acclaimed programmes for major broadcasters Channel 4, Sky, BBC1, HBO and NBCUniversal. Credits include Imposter: The Man Who Came Back from the Dead, Six Silent Killings: Ireland's Vanishing Triangle, Pete Doherty, Who Killed My Son? and Murder in The Valleys.
The ideal candidate would be committed, confident, bright and resilient. They would have a hunger to develop and produce unforgettable documentaries, with journalistic purpose.
Skills and abilities:
A good nose for a story with a clear understanding of what makes a gripping documentary.
Ability to multi-task across different stories and projects.
First-class storytelling, writing and communication skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making.
Ability to work in a small team on intense projects, take direction when necessary and generally get stuck-in
Experience of working with a variety of contributors and sources with the ability to get on with people from all walks of life.
Ability to work on sensitive and legally contentious projects, often involving challenging subjects.
Competent note-taking skills and an understanding of media law and compliance.
Desirable:
The primary purpose of this role is not to be a camera operator but the ability to shoot confidently would be advantageous.
Experience in journalism would be desirable, an interest in journalism is essential.
Experience working up ideas within Development including writing treatments.
The ideal candidate would be Bristol based, or willing to relocate, but we would consider exceptional candidates from other parts of the UK.
A sense of humour would be helpful.
