Post Production Manager

London

The Broadcast Filming & Post-Production (BFPP) Manager will report directly to the Producer, Broadcast. They will supervise and lead the BFPP team, managing workloads, the space and ensuring the smooth-running and optimal performance of the BFPP suite.

They will work closely with all areas of the Broadcast Department, including the NT Live production team, as well as the National Theatre's Sound & Video department to establish collaborative ways of working, and maintain good communication between the Broadcast and Sound & Video departments.

They will develop relationships with the IT department who provide core support to the smooth running of the Edit Suite. In addition they will work widely across the organisation including with Digital Development, Publications, Learning, Marketing and Development. We are looking for someone to capture the creative life of the NT and make films from new and existing footage.

Duties and Responsibilities
• To manage and lead the Edit Suite Assistant, the Post Production Editor and Filmmaker, and freelancers, ensuring the smooth and optimal running of the BFPP suite
• Working collaboratively with the Producer to shape the BFPP, prioritising its development in the wider context of Broadcast team
• Creating original content (short films, trailers and branded content) relating to the National Theatre for a variety of online platforms and other forms of distribution, including cinema
• Working with archive footage to repurpose existing interviews, and performance recordings to produce new content
• Ensuring the effective delivery of media to the relevant party in the correct format and to the given brief and budget
• Creating short-form video content in a variety of styles, capturing talks, workshops, performances, trailers, talking heads and other events
• Managing BFPP creative requests efficiently in collaboration with Assistant Producer and Producer
• Supporting NT Live pre and post broadcast - creating content where necessary, exporting in the correct format, ingesting outputs post-broadcast and preparing content to distribute internationally
• Assisting with the archive capture of National Theatre productions, and events, such as Platform talks and Learning workshops
• Being knowledgeable and aware of rights issues and ensuring all assets provided for use have appropriate rights clearances
• Working closely with the Marketing department to ensure content reflects required branding or sponsorship messaging
• Outputting files to the correct technical specification dependent on platform and territory, ensuring correct frame rate, codec and audio configuration (including 5.1 surround sound), demonstrating an understanding of the need and impact of these deliverables
• To undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required
• To support the National's communications objectives by sharing information with your manager, team and colleagues as appropriate, whilst respecting confidentiality, so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively

Person Specification
Essential:
Personal Skills & Experience
• Strong leadership and management experience and skills, including the ability to lead a team by example
• The ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of partners, quickly building rapport
• Excellent communications skills, dealing confidently and positively with people at all levels, both face to face, over the telephone and by email
• Excellent planning and project management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy and changeable working environment and balance multiple demands, showing an understanding of how the content delivery supports wider National Theatre projects and initiatives
• Solid experience with budget management including the ability to work to a set budget and shape tasks/projects in line with budget perimeters
• The ability to represent the BFPP both internally and externally
• A strong use of initiative to steer innovation within a team and environment, showing a pro-active approach to work and a high level of motivation
• A creative mind for generating ideas to promote events and develop the audiovisual offering for the Broadcast department
• Ability to grasp key issues quickly and, if necessary, deal with complex situations at short notice
• An understanding of their role within the context of a larger organisation or team


Technical Skills & Experience

• Solid knowledge and experience of producing audio-visual content in an arts context, with a track record of successfully delivering creative media to brief
• Experience of self-op filming including lighting and sound and a thorough understanding of kit requirements for a shoot
• Extensive experience of editing in Adobe Premiere Pro
• Experience of outputting content for broadcast
• Sound editorial judgement based on a good understanding of the subject matter and target audience
• Experience of working with a digital asset management system
• Solid understanding of other NLE systems and post production workflows (e.g. FCP, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, round-tripping for audio mix and grade, and online/offline workflows)
• Experience of post-production within an organisation, edit-house or post-production suite
• Experience of creating content in a variety of formats, frame rates and sound configuration
• Experience of multi-camera shoots, sound-opping, and editing
• Experience of working with freelance crews

Desirable:
• Experience working with Adobe After Effects
• Experience working at management level at an in-house film production company
• A keen interest in the arts and/or experience in theatre
