Podcast production manager

London

The growing Economist podcast team is looking for a podcast production manager to work across the department. This award-winning team produces two podcasts a day which collectively have around 20 million listens a month globally.
A production manager is needed to facilitate the smooth running of the podcast department.
They would oversee and improve internal administrative systems. The candidate would benefit from prior experience in an audio-visual production environment.

Equipment - manage the team's equipment and determine wider editorial needs, manage budget for equipment

Studio - manage studio bookings internally, scope out viability and budget for cameras in the studio/an additional voice-over booth, work on a maintenance contract with external studio engineer, troubleshoot, make usage covid-19 compliant

Staff - implement process for booking holiday, formalise arrangements, arrange freelance cover, build relationships with freelancers, assist with contracts, manage and forecast freelance budgets, ensure correct forms, tax etc, invoices, billing, overtime, sunday/monday rota, DOIL, expenses, credit card admin, new joiners

Budget - work with head and deputy head of department and head of finance to ensure the department's budget meets

Podcasts -
oversee accurate logging of content of our shows, rights issue, maintain logs of music and archive clips and assist with clearance
Work with external providers eg of music/archive material - manage relationship, contract, budget
Manage logging, payment and invoicing of paid contributors, create forecasts
Manage logging of shows, contributors for contributors list (and work on automating this process)
Ensure proper archiving of audio and scripts
Create edit schedules and help workflow/rotas
Provide administrative support to the head of the department and deputy
Knowledge and experience of production insurance policies and procedures. Mindful of risks and able to advise on queries brought to the Podcast team
Accountable for resolving material operational and financial issues commensurate with the role
Potential future work on accessibility and overhaul of the audio edition.

You'll need to have:
-at least 2 years' experience as a production manager
-excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-the ability to work effectively as part of a team and alone
-stamina, persistence, enthusiasm, motivation and a proactive manner
-the ability to remain calm and level-headed under pressure
-ability to take initiative, flexibility, adaptability, common sense and problem-solving skills
-sound administrative and organisational skills
-a good level of numeracy and fast, accurate word-processing skills
-attention to detail
-the ability to prioritise and cope with last-minute changes
