Podcast Host

London

The International Observatory of Human Rights is seeking a freelance host for its new podcast focusing on current affairs and human rights. The podcast aim is to arouse curiosity about human rights and generate interest in people not yet familiar with social issues affecting our world.

The podcast will be launched in the following months and will feature a discussion between the host and the guests, but will also include audio files from previous work that IOHR has conducted. Each episode will last 20 minutes and will answer a question, for instance: What do the Uyghurs have to do with you?

Deadline for this application: 15th March.

The International Observatory of Human Rights:
The International Observatory of Human Rights is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organisation based in London. The team is made up of human rights professionals, lawyers, researchers, award-winning journalists, and academics of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Our partners and viewers value IOHR's unique human rights web television platform and our use of digital and multimedia mediums to put the focus on human rights worldwide.

The role:
You will be responsible for conducting a discussion with guests on humanitarian issues shaping today's world as well as narrate the scripts, setting the editorial tone of the show. You will follow a script written by IOHR's producers. However, during the recording, you will also contribute with your ideas, thoughts, and questions and you will be able to improvise.

The audience for this podcast is not necessarily interested in human rights, therefore you will need to conduct each episode as a storyteller. This means you will engage with an audience and attract listeners' attention with your friendly and charismatic personality. Your tone will need to be uplifting rather than exclusively informative.

Please note that this is not a full-time position and will require you to work with IOHR on a freelance basis.

The ideal skills for this role are:
A degree in journalism or any other relevant academic path or experience in broadcast
A passion for podcasting
The ability to speak with personality, warmth, and humour
Native-level English language skills
A great and energetic radio voice
A bubbly personality
Excellent communicator and team worker
Interviewing skills
An understanding of international current affairs

The desirable skills for this role are:
Experience in hosting a podcast - not exclusively related to professional experience. This could be your own podcast or a university project

How to apply:
We won't accept any applications without the following content:
A CV
A Cover letter outlining how you would contribute to our podcast as a host
