Courier is looking for an experienced, creative, detail-oriented and disciplined Photo Editor responsible for retouching high- quality assets, image curation, archiving and processing for our editorial and digital projects, while taking briefs from the Creative Director to help commission photographers. You will also be asked to help source locations and studios and ensure the smooth running of the picture desk as well as be able to do quick- re London-based shoots when called upon.The successful candidate will be based in London.What you'll do:• Source, in collaboration with the art department, all research imagery, ensuring it's within the Courier style and brings the best images into the magazine• Establish and maintain good relationships with all contributors, agencies and team members and ensure that all the necessary usage contracts are up to date• Attend regular meetings with the art and editorial departments to discuss projects and features in depth and decide on the visual treatment - i.e. picture research, photographic shoot or illustration• Provide all photographers/agencies/illustrators with a detailed brief (written or verbal). A comprehensive written brief should be sent to photographers once approved by the Creative Director• Work with the Art department in coordinating shoots from start to nish - i.e. liaise with all relevant parties, book locations/studios, arrange transport, delivery of props, etc.• Establish copyright correctly• Check and sign invoices and process in the correct way• Ensure that picture deadlines are always met for print, digital and campaigns• Maintain an organised and accessible ling system for all photographic material by issue, project and department• Ensure pictures are ready within speci c deadlines with all picture credits correctly indicated• Maintain picture credits and manage budget• Build strong relationships with photographers while also scouting for new talent• Print proo ng and ensure prints consistent throughout• Ensure all imagery is sized correctly to support correct delivery• Be knowledgeable about colour, colour space and RGB to CMYK conversions• Understand print, digital and le speci cation• Expert on Photoshop as well as an understanding of InDesign and illustrator• Knowledge of other elements of the Adobe Creative Suite would be desirable• Shoot imagery, mainly for our Courier London title, on a regular basisWhat you'll bring:• Ability to establish and maintain good relations with picture agencies, contributors, photographers, illustrators and the internal team• Proven experience in production and picture desk• Strong picture research skills and excellent creative eye• Proven experience in liaising with picture agencies to establish the brief and research their libraries• Ability to write a creative and inspiring yet succinct brief• Strong negotiation skills• Ability to shoot portraits and/or food and interiors if needed
