News Director

Your key responsibilities:
Sky News is always looking at ways to enhance our productions and improve our output. We've moved to a different style of gallery production and require Directors to work using automation technology who will be a vital part our future. Working closely with producers to ensure that the channel's brand, look and ethos are maintained and future innovations to output are devised and delivered successfully on air. As a Sky News director you will thrive in a pressurised environment, have strong interpersonal skills, and a team work ethic. Have excellent attention to detail and an interest in new technology and demonstrable experience in News or Sports News

Directing

- Coordinate and direct production, gallery crew, talent and remote sources. Maintaining Sky News' high production and brand values.
- Camera shot selection via robotics. Counting talent out of show elements and occasional OBs directing

Drive automation
- Operate Ross Overdrive live on air for transmission of programmes. Assist the on-air director, managing the upcoming Overdrive/OpenMedia running order
- Use Overdrive automation to increase options for reliably producing complex sequences.
- Break out of automation when the situation demands and work "on the fly", returning the programme to automation when appropriate.
- Control graphics and video playout. Control set elements and lighting levels by cue selection. Operate remote studios.

Production Collaboration
- Work with editorial staff to ensure correct coding of all story elements within the running order and ensuring this is reflected in the automation rundown. Liaise with internal and external production teams to gather programme requirements.
- Work closely with the Producer and production teams to ensure the look and feel of the programmes maintains the standards of Sky News.

Your skills:
- Have knowledge of OFCOM rules pertaining to broadcast/product placement/undue prominence.
- A genuine passion for TV news and strong familiarity of Sky News and subject matters - Experience within high level Sports/News environments.
- Strong understanding of editorial requirements.
- Ability to make quick decisions, solve problems and remain calm under pressure in a live production environment.
- Up-to-date knowledge of the latest technological and operational developments.
- Directing rolling output - using talkback and IFB to presenters and contributors, following the programme rundown and reacting to breaking news.
- Working knowledge or understanding of automation technology, and how it links to gallery devices, such as the vision and sound mixers, graphics and video play-out and camera robotics.
