Junior Environment Artist - EOI

London hybrid HYBRID

A multi Oscar-winning creative studio, we have worked with some of the greatest storytellers in film today. Collaborating with directors and producers across the complete filmmaking process to help design, plan and create beautiful images, we focus on finding innovative creative solutions to support their vision and set new standards for visual effects in cinema.

Who We Are
Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create, whether in film, TV, advertising or immersive experiences. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

The Role
As an Environment Artist at Framestore, you'll be the mastermind behind assembling models, digital matte paintings, textures, projections, and lights into a spellbinding scene for rendering. Your creative touch extends to crafting models, textures, and photo-realistic digital matte paintings - or collaborating seamlessly with specialists in those disciplines.

But it's not just about the artistry; you'll be the troubleshooter, tackling technical issues with the CG scene and optimising renders to work seamlessly within available resources. Your collaboration extends to working hand-in-hand with a Compositor, bringing renders and projections to life in a compositing application.

What else is on your pallet:

Scene assembly and lighting prowess for a variety of shots and assets, including characters and animation.

A keen eye for developing the visual look of shots, assets, or sequences in collaboration with Visual Effects and CG Supervisors.

Identifying the optimal approach to match the quality of plate photography.

Seamless communication with production, ensuring schedules and deadlines are not just met but exceeded.

Job requirements
Strong knowledge of Maya, Nuke, and Photoshop.

Modeling, UV layout, and texturing skills.

Previous experience with a 2.5D workflow.

A strong understanding of the entire VFX process.

Good communication and organisational skills.

Creative problem-solving abilities.

Desirable Experience

Experience with volumetric rendering for clouds and atmosphere.

An understanding of cutting-edge technology in the field, such as stereo photogrammetry and photo-based 3D reconstruction.

A traditional arts background with an emphasis on photo-realism and environments.

Artistic skills in digital matte painting.
