Junior Casting Apprentice

London W12

One of the UK's leading full service casting companies working across commercials, films (feature length and short films), television and music videos. The company is made up of two full time staff and a roster of part time staff. The environment is generally a hectic one and tasks need to be completed with both attention to detail and speed. The office comprises the general open plan office, a casting studio and reception area.

Location - West London Shepherds Bush/ Holland Park; Candidates must be London based. The role would ideally suit someone living reasonably close to West London.

About The Apprenticeship:

As the Junior Assistant your responsibilities will be varied but will include initially:

Website/Studio/Editing
• Editing casting clips
• Uploading and updating information to our website
• Installing updates on computers
• Research relating to website and technical equipment improvements
• Studio prep and strike
• Camera work / Reading in at sessions
• Casting networks and casting system software

Reception Management
• Audition check-in of talent using iPad and imac
• Communication with the studio on ichat
• Door Entrance system operation
• Ensuring talent fill out forms and taking of headshots & printing as required
• Liaising with actors as their first point of contact in the office when they attend castings
• Filling in cost sheets
• Giving notes to actors prior to auditioning
• Informing other staff of any cancellations or problems that may arise
• Preparation and strike: scripts/props/forms/cast lists/refreshments/camera

Communication
• Effective Telephone handling/call diverts/message taking
• Informing casting assistant when tasks are completed

Research
• Researching actors using IMDB, Spotlight and other means on a per project basis
• Keeping up to date with technology
• Representing the office by attending the theatre to see talent minimum twice a month (tickets provided)
• Keeping up to date with current TV dramas and films and discussing within the office

General Administration
• Office filing
• Keeping reception, office and kitchen clean, neat and tidy
• Answering the phone, taking messages
• Making up Job Bags
• Making teas and coffees
• Helping call in/confirm actors
• Drafting breakdowns for new jobs

Skills required

• Good command in both spoken and written English
• Good communication skills
• Apple Mac Software or transferable IT skills
• Familiarity with basic video editing
• Basic knowledge of modifying websites
• Excellent attention to detail
• A good work ethic
• Good timekeeping

Personal Qualities
A bit of a geek with an interest in Film, Theatre and TV is desirable. The right candidate should be confident, friendly, down to earth, pro-active, willing to muck in, work hard and get their hands dirty.

Qualifications
GCSE in both English and Maths with grades A-C are essential.

Future Prospects
After the completion of a successful apprenticeship and depending on individual performance and the level of contribution to the business, there is strong potential for a full time job for the right candidate.

Reality Check
This job demands a person with a high degree of stamina. Days can sometimes be quite stressful as our clients are very demanding and often we have to work at very high speed and complete several projects within a very short time frame. Often the day will start with one main task and then that will change completely during the course of the day which is why candidates must have a great deal of flexibility, energy, attention to detail and commitment. As we work with a very small team, it will not be suitable for someone who would prefer to work in an office with more people.

Salary and Working Week:

The weekly wage of the apprenticeship placement is £170
Office hours are 9.30am - 6.00pm Monday to Thursday, although occasionally staff may have to work outside of these hours if the job requires it, for example if a casting session over runs.
Fridays are spent at college.

Apprenticeships are open to Candidates aged 16-24.
