AIMS OF THE JOB

To conduct independent, original research in preparation for a new stage production:

To conduct interviews and source material on Multiculturalism and freedom of speech.

To ensure the factual accuracy of interviewees' stories.

ORGANISATION

The post-holder will report to and work in close conjunction with the Artistic Director, but will also work with, and occasionally report to the Operations Manager and Executive Producer.

ENVIRONMENT

The post is largely office-based, normal office hours are 10am - 6pm. However, a flexible approach to working hours may be required. Research can involve long and unpredictable work patterns, and pressure to meet tight schedules.


MAIN DUTIES

• To carry out research at the behest of the Artistic Director
o find interviewees
o conduct and record interviews
o to find/source newspaper, radio and television programmes and negotiate usage for a theatre production
• To issue and collect release forms to interviewees
• To summarise all interviews
• To keep an accurate catalogue of all interviewed recordings, release forms and summaries.
• To check stories for accuracy.
• To be aware of Governmental policies on Multiculturalism

We want the new production to be based on real stories, and it will be the researcher's job to find and interview people, many who will be well known public figures, whose personal experience is relevant to the subject matter.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (ONLY APPLICANTS WITH PROVEN TRACK RECORD NEED APPLY)

• Significant experience as a factual/documentary researcher (2-3 years minimum)
• A track record of finding good stories and the best possible contributors
• Strong journalistic background
• The ability to handle strong emotional human issues stories with tact and sensitivity
• A broadly based knowledge of and a familiarity with conventional and specialised sources of information and research techniques.
• The ability to interpret editorial/artistic intentions
• An informed interest in drama research and production.
• Experience of establishing and maintaining administration systems (filing and cataloguing of information gathered)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Familiarity with office and information technology
• Familiarity with sound recording systems and organisation and storage of digital and analogue sound files.
