Job IntroductionBBC Gardeners' World is the UK's best loved and most respected gardening TV programme. It is a flagship BBC Two series that attracts over 2 million viewers each week from spring through to autumn. The programme is about to celebrate its 57th anniversary and forms a key part of BBC Studios' slate of programmes. Main ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with the Series Producer, Planning Producer and Garden Director, you will provide specialist horticultural support to the Gardeners' World team. Normal office hours will generally apply, but a flexible approach is required, subject to the BBC's policies and guidelines. Duties will vary, but are likely to include the following: • Suggest seasonal editorial, manage materials and resolve issues surrounding weekly filming at the main garden location.• Liaise with the lead presenter, both ahead of a shoot and on location.• Source plants or props for filming within BBC editorial guidelines, often at short notice.• Provide support for the edit, ensuring factual accuracy throughout and tracking down archive from a variety of sources.• Ensure that all the necessary paperwork for the whole programme is in place ahead of transmission.• Generate and load content onto the website.• Help manage Gardeners' World's social media platforms and be the first point of contact for viewers.• Generate ideas for VTs, setting them up, attending and seeing them through the edit as and when time allows.• Assist at Flower Show events as and when required.• To carry out all duties in accordance with Health and Safety regulations. Are you the right candidate?The ideal candidate will have the following: • Horticulturally trained with a relevant qualification and at least 3 years working in TV as a Horticultural Researcher.• A passion for horticulture with an excellent working knowledge of plants and all aspects of the gardening calendar.• Highly organised and able to continuously generate new ideas for a weekly programme.• Proven ability of managing successful relationships with high profile talent.• Experience of sourcing plants and props for filming as specified by the lead presenter.• Good team player.• Strong storytelling skills and editorial judgement.• Experience of managing and preparing for edits, both at the offline and online stage, with a good working knowledge of the BBC archive systems and copyright law.• Excellent attention to detail and factual accuracy.• Ability to keep accurate records on a shared computer drive for others to refer to.• Thorough knowledge and experience of working at public events.• Extensive experience of setting up VTs at a variety of locations and providing support during and after filming.• Clean driving licence and confident driver.• Able to travel, overnight and work on location across the UK frequently.
