Head of Technology - animation studio

London based studio with some flexibility

Head of Technology

As the company head of technology you will be instrumental in planning and guiding the technical strategy for the studio, laying out both the long term goals and supporting the smooth running of technical resources on a day to day basis. You will work closely with the senior management team and the production team to ensure the smooth running of technical operations throughout the studio; managing and planning the necessary budgets and allocating appropriate resources.

You are expected to have a broad skill-set ranging from network and server configuration to workstation setup and troubleshooting. In addition you should be well versed in cloud based solutions from Google and AWS. Experience in a creative studio environment is also a must as is experience with OS X, Windows and Linux.

You are an experienced problem solver and you have the ability to quickly break down technical issues into manageable and appropriate solutions. As an experienced project manager you understand the importance of planning, communicating, implementing and reviewing any of the technical projects you need to undertake as part of your job. Your knowledge of cyber security and of building and supporting robust and reliable network and server infrastructures will be vital components of your role. Previous knowledge configuring and implementing creative toolsets from Adobe, Autodesk and Apple will be advantageous as will a good basic knowledge of programming concepts, particularly using Python.

You will coordinate and manage the studio's technical output for our CG productions, managing and implementing the technical specifications for deliveries to companies like Netflix and ITV. Consequently an understanding of animation production pipelines and digital delivery formats will be important. In addition you will need to liaise with sub-contract studios to ensure their technical output also meets the required standards.

The successful candidate will be a self motivated experienced technologist with a passion for working in the creative industries who is capable of working on both at a strategic level and a hands-on day-to-day support level.

Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and support the technical aspects of the studio's infrastructure and ensure that the studio's technical systems and processes are capable of supporting the ongoing requirements of any projects currently in production.

Plan the technical strategy for the company for the next 3-5 years. Including any RND for emerging technologies and software that may be of benefit for the studio.

Monitor and support the network infrastructure, ensuring it is secure and reliable.

Monitor and support the company's current server storage architecture (based on a hybrid solution from Synology and Google Drive)

Manage authentication and authorization services for all users across multiple platforms.

Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to discuss (in both technical and laymans terms), design and implement technical solutions for teams and departments.

Build strong relationships with clients and suppliers, managing technical budgets and resources effectively.

Support the production pipeline by reviewing and assessing any technical elements for ongoing productions.

Compile and report on technical issues arising throughout the production and troubleshoot and advise on solutions in a clearly communicated fashion.



About You

You will have at least 5 years minimum demonstrable experience of working in a similar role in the creative industries.
You will have had previous budget management experience.
You will have experience of having worked on CG productions (either games/interactive, long form or commercials)
You are self-motivated with exceptional communication skills and a strong team player.
Excellent problem solving skills and an ability to work well under pressure.
You will be supremely comfortable undertaking hands-on trouble shooting and technical support issues.

Your Skills

Exceptional knowledge regarding implementing and supporting technology within the creative industries

Self motivating, able to manage yourself and your time effectively. An excellent communicator both verbally and in writing; presenting technical information in an understandable and accessible manner for the whole team.

You are an expert with OS X and Windows and are comfortable with Linux

Exceptional understanding of network configuration and troubleshooting.

You have a great deal of experience in working with technical teams at clients and suppliers and are capable of taking the lead on team projects, specifying, managing, implementing and supporting projects accordingly.

Willingness to consider diverse and novel solutions to technical challenges.

Formal computing degree from a College or University.

Experience of managing and configuring Google's GSuite Toolset

Additional pluses

Experience working with Production Planning Software such as Shotgun or FTrack.

Experience of working with high end Synology storage clusters.

Experience of Post Production would be an advantage.

A technical test may be required to demonstrate your understanding of some of our current systems if your application does not reveal an adequate ability to match our desired technical requirements.
