Head of Studio

The Head of Studio is a pivotal point of contact between the studio and our ECD, Directors and production teams, to help drive creative and technical production strategy and planning, embracing innovation and efficiency as we expand our ambitious and diverse slate.

Our studio creates highly creative work, crafted to the highest quality across all forms of animation, mixed media and interactive techniques for branded content, XR and the development of long-form animation.
You will be involved from initial enquiries through to delivery, as well as in the proactive development of our capabilities in line with company goals.

The studio is restructuring to cater for a period of high growth. The new Head of Studio role is required to have a broad view of planning and resourcing for projects, leading and mentoring our specialist and distributed teams to ensure productions achieve the highest standards and in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. Building on our strong pipeline and foundations in realtime, you will be heavily involved in driving the expansion of our technical capabilities including the Unreal pipeline, identifying and developing opportunities.

The Head of Studio will have a broad view of the day-to-day CG operations, maintaining best practices and championing innovative solutions, knowledge sharing and training opportunities. You will bring your experience leading teams through new business, production and department operations, supporting the Supervisors to drive bespoke projects forward. You will act as an escalation point to resolve conflicts, ensure resources are effectively utilised, matching artist skillset to assignment and identifying crossutilisation opportunities and external partnerships. There may be occasions to lead, demonstrate your vision and trouble shoot by taking a hands-on creative or technical role.

You'll hold the vision for the offer and, working closely with the CG Supervisors, be responsible for developing and implementing the strategy as an inspiring and inclusive leader. You will use your expertise to develop and champion world-class solutions that are additive to the high quality creative and craft.

You will play an important part in ensuring clear communication, continuity and collaboration of teams in London, Los Angeles, Sydney and elsewhere. You will keep abreast of developments and trends and be the driver for new ways of working.

You will have:
8+ years' experience in Animation, Features/Series, Games or other relevant sector Working knowledge of 3D pipelines and software including Maya, Zbrush, Houdini, Realflow, Adobe Photoshop, Nuke & Shotgun.
Knowledge of Unreal Engine, ideally, and an active interest in developing realtime workflows and talent.
The ability to present ideas and strategy confidently to staff, senior management and to discuss and develop creative and technical solutions with clients.
A proven track record as a team leader, motivating and inspiring your team. Excellent communication skills with everyone throughout the company.
Ability to work with a variety of directors, understanding a director's vision and being additive to this at pitch stage onwards, from a creative, technical and crew structure perspective.
Working knowledge of heavyweight specialists, external studios and external teams for Nexus Studios to use when specialist skills, partnerships or outsourcing is required.

You will work with:
The founders and leadership to develop our capabilities and offer in line with overall company strategy and vision, and to be a driver for change.
CG Supervisors to ensure an overall understanding of all projects in production and at pitch stage, and with all of the studio team on performance management and development.
Head of Production, ECD, CDs and Directors to bring in the best opportunities and find best fit solutions.
CG Sups, Pipeline TD, Technical Directors and Creative Directors to develop and implement practices that ensure that Nexus remains at the top of its game.
Head of Resourcing to assess future staffing and hardware needs based on project forecasts and future trends in the industry.
All on project debriefs and technical post-mortems, ensuring findings and opportunities for improvement are shared with relevant stakeholders.
EP, Producer, Creative Lead and Supervisor on budgeting and approach for opportunities, ensuring that the most effective creative and technical solutions are devised in line with budget and time parameters and our strategic goals
