The Independent Film Trust is a charity committed to advancing the cause of independent filmmaking by uncovering untold stories, empowering emerging creative voices and developing new audiences. We campaign to provide an independent film scene that is both entertaining and challenging, inspiring empathy through diverse stories from an eclectic range of life experiences.

Job Purpose:
• To expand the IFT's capacity to teach filmmaking and visual arts practice to wider groups of people across the UK.
• To collaborate with partner organisations to develop specialist media education programmes for people that are typically marginalised. Partners may include schools and charities working with young people, refugees, people with experience of the criminal justice system and people with experience of homelessness.
• Devise and teach workshops in filmmaking, VR and visual arts.
• Raise funds for education and training programmes through grant funding and sponsorship.

Job impact:
• Work closely with the CEO and Head of Development to shape all IFT education and training programmes.
• Work with the entire IFT team to enable people across the UK to benefit from filmmaking and visual arts, particularly those typically marginalised and underrepresented by mainstream arts and culture.
• Play a key role in the charity, managing freelance staff and key external relationships, ensuring we deliver to our key objectives including growing our base of collaborating organisations as well as our beneficiary reach and appreciation.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
• To devise and teach workshops in film and visual arts production that enable a diverse range of people to engage with arts and culture.
• To develop visual arts projects with an independent spirit that amplify underrepresented voices.
• To manage partnerships with collaborating organisations.
• To work with the entire IFT team to strengthen participatory production processes in film and visual arts.
• Drive forward innovative proposals that connect with our charitable aims and ensure projects are delivered as commissioned.
• Ensure projects adhere stringently with all relevant IFT policies & standards including safeguarding and data protection.
• Inspire and generate creative ideas in all aspects of the IFT's work.

Knowledge, skills, training and experience:
• Demonstrable ability to teach workshops in filmmaking and immersive media
• Demonstrable ability to collaborate with other organisations to develop specialist training programmes.
• Demonstrable ability to raise funds through grant application writing, pitching and/or networking with key collaborating organisations.
• Passion for amplifying underrepresented voices within film and media.
• Ability to ensure that all projects meet IFT's charitable aims and adhere to policies & standards including safeguarding and data protection.
• Extensive experience of developing visual arts projects with a clear social-justice vision.
• Sound understanding of the creative media industry and how it is developing with new technologies and platforms.
• Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complex problems into component parts and evaluate systematically.
• Effective planning and organising skills with the ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
• Has the ability to consider a range of problems and uses own judgement to apply effective, time critical solutions.

REMUNERATION: £40,000 pro rata.

LOCATION: Ideally based at our London office. All work will be remote as long as COVID travel restrictions are in place.

CONTRACT TYPE: 3-month term, Full-time.

The Independent Film Trust, exists to advance the cause of independent filmmaking by uncovering new stories, empowering new voices and developing new audiences. We advocate for more diversity and representation in the film industry, amplifying stories that explore new ideas, challenge audiences and inspire empathy. The IFT was set up in 2004 and is a UK-registered charity. Our activities include advocacy for a more diverse and representative film industry, support for filmmakers struggling to develop projects and the provision of film and media training for those who are marginalised. Collaborations with industry partners help us impact positively on the professional UK film industry and advocate for greater equality and innovation in storytelling. Our community outreach allows people who might never engage with film to take an active role in producing cinema and contributing to British film. At every stage we campaign to provide an independent film scene that is challenging and entertaining whilst inclusive and representative of the broader UK public.
