Head of Content

D&AD is looking for a Head of Content to lead on the content strategies and editorial decisions working alongside and reporting into our Marketing Director, and working closely with our Senior management team in addition to other stakeholders.

The Head of Content will help us set the content vision to help us achieve our strategic commercial and charitable objectives and to serve our community to meet their needs, whether that be inspiration, stimulation, and education to support our global community, telling powerful and engaging and authentic stories that connects our community and helps us to build our target audiences.

The Head of Content will develop and oversee an integrated content strategy that encompasses multiple channels, macro editorial planning as well as the ability to quickly react and respond to current events, digital publishing and distribution, as well as reporting the metrics against which the content should be measured against our objectives.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others. As well as having a nose for a good story, experience of telling stories visually on a range of channels, and a flair for guiding the production of persuasive campaigns and simple, powerful messages within a creative and purpose-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
* Line management of the Web Editor and Senior Social Media Executive.
* Leading on D&AD's content strategy, planning and implementation.
* Commissioning and sourcing content, telling stories around the award winning work and the heroes behind the stories, about the work we do with our New Blood audiences, the students, the tutors and the universities, ensuring diverse representation of the global creative community, and developing content to support our Partners.
* Develop D&AD content playbook and ensure all content produced across the business meets the brand guidelines, upholds D&AD's standards and integrity, and raises D&AD profile.
* Working with our key teams to ensure that processes for commissioning, designing and producing programme content are efficient, effective, and offer an 'agency-standard' quality of creative concepts and final product
* Efficiently managing a tight budget to deliver the content strategy and deciding on how it can be most effectively invested for maximum benefit against the agreed objectives of the organisation.
* Overseeing the maintenance of an effective and efficient production schedule and content calendar, with an annual content plan to be designed, commissioned, produced and delivered in line with our business cycle.
* Ensuring you keep an eye on the competitor environment and conduct research to ensure D&AD has a unique position in its content strategy, which may include gathering market data to help determine the content programme and ensure we produce high quality original content that expresses well informed topics and themes.
* Managing the brand's social media strategy in regards to content, community management, consumer engagement, customer service, performance management, and listings in order to facilitate actionable insights that inform strategic decision-making for the business's social media presence and content.
* Supporting the marketing and departmental teams in their projects such as branding, content, and messages, including working with the sales teams for the purpose of developing sales content and helping to identify new business opportunities and new potential markets.

Skills & Experience essential
* Exceptional communication skills, both in written and verbal form and to be able to communicate to senior levels including the Board of Trustees.
* Experience in digital publishing, subscription and community management.
* Experience of working with creative people including but not limited to, designers, art directors, copywriters, photographers, film-makers and story-tellers, and to students and emerging talent as well as senior and established professionals
* Experience or ability to devise and implement effective strategies to target key priority audiences based on audience research and data evaluations.
* Experience of leading a team of direct reports, preferably in a creative environment.
* Experience in researching and developing ongoing programmes
* Strong analytical skills to help us measure our effectiveness against predetermined metrics.
* Commercial acumen as we build this role into more than just a content delivery role but one that helps us grow our community, and subscribers that will help us to deliver our commercial objectives.
* IT literate - Excel, Word, CMS systems
* Be able to demonstrate strong negotiation skills in managing stakeholder expectations
* Strong leadership skills

Skills & Experience desirable
* A keen interest in Design & Advertising
* 4 year's experience with an excellent track record in content strategy, editorial and production, preferably as a senior content editor or senior content marketer, with experience of driving social media strategies.
* A bachelor's degree in marketing journalism, communications, English or public relations.
* Some degree of technical savviness, also desirable, in areas including, software, digital platforms, media channels as examples.
