Graphics Editor

London

Reuters is looking for a graphics editor to work with the graphics team building news-driven data visualisations. The Graphics Editor will create interactive graphics and multimedia packages for news stories and other forms of visual story telling.

Along with an interest in data and how to visualise it in a meaningful way, candidates should have first-class news judgment, an understanding of financial concepts and strong organisational skills. This work will be featured on Reuters.com and the products of our customers. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine understanding of design and stay abreast of new techniques and tools for presenting information visually and interactively.This position reports to the Graphics News Editor in London.

Essential day-to-day responsibilities:
The graphic will create visual order from disparate concepts or amorphous data sets, applying logic, research and analysis to create information designs that add clarity, tell a story and emphasise key insights.

The successful candidate will work on a wide range of subjects including political and general news, financial news, companies, sports, climate and science.

Requirements:
Mastery of HTML5, CSS3 and javascript and familiarity with libraries like D3, backbone, underscore and JQuery.
Knowledge of mapping tools such as QGIS and TopoJSON.
Familiarity with Less, Sass, Gulp or similar tools for compiling and minimising CSS.
Familiarity with back-end web technologies including Python and Ruby - web frameworks such as PHP, Rails, Django or node.js is a plus.
Illustration capabilities are a plus
The ability to collaborate with others is essential. The job requires working with graphics colleagues in New York, London and Singapore, and with text reporters, photographers and video crews around the world.
