Graduate Sound Engineer

London

We are looking to train a graduate Sound Engineer, working on and off-site in all aspects of the sound department, to manage and support the large quantity of sound equipment used on OB operations.

PROGRAMME LENGTH
This is a two-year development programme including secondments to various engineering departments, giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career in Sound Engineering. As a Graduate Trainee, you can expect to put all the theory you have learnt at university into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in Broadcast Technology, and prepare you for long-term career.

PROGRESSION
Our Graduate Sound Engineer role could be right for you if you are interested in pursuing one of the following careers:
* Sound Engineer
* Head of Sound
* Edit Assistant
* Outside Broadcast Engineer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensuring that equipment is checked, prepared and loaded for upcoming jobs.
* Ensuring that equipment is stored correctly once the job is completed, and that any faults or issues are followed up.
* Assisting in all sound operations on site (for example: placing and cabling microphones, wiring up talent, setting up radio mic systems, plugging talkback equipment).
* Working under the support of the Sound Guarantee engineers to understand technical requirements and help where possible in preparation for all upcoming projects.
* Being the on-site person responsible for keeping equipment trucks (tenders) tidy and ensuring all sound equipment is back on the truck at the end of each job.
* Developing skills and knowledge within the broadcast industry, keeping abreast of technological advancements and receiving training in areas where further knowledge is required.
* Basic trouble shooting and fault fixing on OB systems.

* Undertaking all duties and activities in accordance with current Timeline Health and Safety Guidance.

TRAINING
You will the hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers and getting hands-on experience on projects ranging from outside broadcasts and studio productions for our major broadcast clients.

After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.

ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
* Up to Degree/BTEC level or equivalent.
* Good knowledge of sound equipment and the fundamentals and of the latest sound technology.
* A general knowledge of broadcast engineering areas including power supply systems, cameras, intercom, file based media systems and RF technologies.
* An in-depth knowledge of different types of microphones used within the broadcast industry.
* Basic Knowledge of Intercom and talkback equipment.
* Able to solder and use a range of hand tools to repair cables and electronic equipment.
* Has a high level of computer literacy and the ability to operate in a wide range of technical, operational & business environments. * In particular IP based media networking systems.
* An ability to identify, interpret and follow information presented in technical planning sheets.
* Demonstrates a methodical approach to fault-finding and logical problem solving when dealing with arising issues.
* Self-motivated, able to establish effective working relationships and willing to assist others.
* Shows a flexible approach to the job, and adapts to last minute changes to the operational requirements.
* Appreciation of technical, artistic and practical problems of colleagues in other disciplines, especially lighting, cameras, post production and other related crafts.
* An awareness of the need to gain and retain the confidence of the Customer to ensure an ongoing business relationship.
* Working within all Timeline policies, working practices and Health and Safety guidelines.
* Willing to work away from home for extended periods and travel extensively
* A willingness to be contactable and available at short notice on off-duty days to respond to incoming work or to assist colleagues.
* Clean UK driving licence.

Previous experience in an operational role in TV Outside Broadcasting is desirable.

Please note that this is a shift-based role and involves unsociable hours and weekend work.
