The Gaffer & Console Operator plays a crucial role in the smooth and efficient operation of the lighting department for our Daytime shows, which include Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women. This role provides essential technical support to the Lighting & Vision Operator and other crew members, ensuring the lighting setup is executed to the highest standards, contributing to the visual quality and overall success of the show. The role encompasses pre-production preparation, show execution and post show maintenance.Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)Previous experience in a live studio TV environmentDemonstrable interest in television lighting and productionBasic understanding of lighting principles and equipmentExperience working effectively in a fast-paced, live broadcast environmentStrong attention to detail and excellent organisational skillsUnderstanding of electrical safety and relevant production electrician qualificationsOther things we're looking for (key criteria)Creativity and/or Problem SolvingExperience trouble-shooting, identifying faults and offering swift solutionsCommunicationA strong work ethic and a positive attitudeDemonstrated skills in liaising and communicating with the Lighting & Vision Operator, Gallery and Camera teamsExcellent communication skillsPlanning & OrganisationMethodical - applies proactive problem-solving skillsProven ability to work calmly while under pressureTechnical Skills & KnowledgeDemonstrable proficiency in using lighting control consolesGood knowledge of various lighting fixturesDemonstrable understanding of DMX and networking protocolsExperience in reading and interpret lighting plots and technical drawingsProven awareness and knowledge of the relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies and practices in a television studio environmentExperience in swiftly administering relevant maintenance during live broadcast and in preparation for showsWorking with OthersUnderstands the demands of a pressurised environment - awareness of the team's needs and priorities for the programmeBuilds a good rapport with colleagues, and works collaboratively to seek and understand their views and creative visionAbility to be a team player and work effectively with different departments across the programmeExperience in following instructions and work as part of a teamAdditional Information:Must be able to work on location if neededMust be able to work early mornings
