Environment Artist

Manchester

Founded in 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is one of the largest global independent studios, dedicated to delivering next-generation AAA games. CIG prides itself in thinking outside the box, encouraging creativity and developing ground-breaking technology. CIG believes in raising the bar for the gaming industry and the community as a whole.

About the Role:

As an Environment Artist on the Squadron 42 Art Team, you will be responsible for bringing the diverse worlds and locations of the Odin System to life. We are unique as a project with the diversity and ambition of our locations, which seamlessly blend massive explorable space locations to highly detailed FPS interiors, usually all within the same location or chapter of our game. This includes the inside of a kilometer long mining-station that orbits the electromagnetic remnants of a dead planet, or on the surface of a dying planet hosting planetary scale fracking operations, long since abandoned to pirates and slavers.

You will be responsible for bringing these locations to life, working on the highest quality hard surface environments in the industry. This could be level ownership and world-building, asset creation and implementation or detailed material and texture work.

What does an Environment Artist at CIG do?

Create believable environments which are rich in detail and will inspire the player to explore.
Create photorealistic architectural kits and props.
Work closely with the Art Lead and Art Director to make sure the artistic vision is coming to life.
Collaborate with other departments to help create the best experience possible.
What do we expect from our Environment Artists?

Someone who is passionate about creating inspirational environments.
Experience in creating photorealistic artwork or in the sci-fi genre.
Understanding key aspects of the discipline like modelling, shading and lighting.
Someone who loves to be part of a passionate team and is able to communicate effectively.
Provide guidance and support to more junior team members.
If you've always wanted to create beautiful and exotic sci-fi environments which you can explore and get lost in then this could be the position for you, so please apply immediately.
