Engineer

Purpose of Job: To provide a role that oversees the engineering supervision of the sudio as well as fulfils all the requirements of a robotic camera and technical operator. Executing a live broadcast on an auction channel; dealing with any issues arising or reporting to Production Manager to manage "live" studio and ensure correct health and safety procedures are followed while on the floor.

Key Responsibilites:
Directs activities concerned with layout and design of electrical circuitry for acquired equipment to ensure conformance with codes and safety regulations.
Establishes procedures for operation and maintenance of studio, remote control, and microwave transmission equipment.
Inspects, and directs testing and maintenance of studio, remote, and airborne broadcasting equipment to ensure operational performance meets company standards and rules and regulations of OFCOM.
Develops modification plans for existing broadcasting equipment to improve technical performance.
Directs modification and testing of equipment to ensure operational performance meets specified standards.
Prepares repair and maintenance schedules for studio, remote, and airborne broadcasting equipment to prevent interruption of broadcasts.
Contacts telephone company personnel to ensure leased landlines or microwave facilities are operative and available for network broadcasting.
Prepares annual budget for engineering department and controls expenditures within budget limitations.
Ensures that all studio equipment is functioning.
Assist with any planned studio relocation as required.
Work closely with production staff and other resource departments to ensure that operational and other production needs are effectively and efficiently met.
Identify and implement alternative ways of meeting programme output and other requirements to cover equipment failures with minimum loss of services.
Attends the production meeting and raises any camera issues with the director in terms of the shot composition or programme execution.
Checks all camera equipment is operational, cleans lens, sets up for line up.
Sets up autocue
Ensures health and safety requirements are met in terms of cables and leads.
Handling all auction software, i.e. rectifying if software fails.
Oversees recording of all visual output for OFCOM regulations.
Maintaining Bulb and tape stock levels and changing studio lights when necessary.
Covering technical crew breaks.
Troubleshooting all output issues
On a late shift ensuring that the necessary equipment is powered down (GFX, monitors etc.)
Uploading the next dayâ??s schedules to Hermes
Ensure that Turbo server/ sound desk, camera OCPâ??s and lighting desk are operational.
Caching in of promos, schedules and any other data required onto software systems ensuring that all cached material is broadcast quality.
Provide handover notes and diary for any issues arising during the day to crew on next shift.
Tape recordings of footage
During broadcast maintain optimum video and audio levels
All clips and promos cued and fit for air
Checking and replacing batteries for radio mics and talkback units
Handover procedure for shift changeover and breaks.
Conditions of Employment
Close collaboration with other Engineers with in the team and Broadcast Operations and Platform Control, Projects and Design functions within the Broadcast Services division
Experience on Kayak vision mixer, Ability to use video camera & pedestals
Educated to engineering or physics degree standard or equivalent.
