Director/Producer (Self-shooting)

London, SE1 3ER

Would you like to get paid a £40k+ salary to make awesome films and come up with ideas for even better films and TV? And then earn commission for winning pitches and helping to grow the business? We thought so too. Please read below about becoming the new member of Econ Films!

Econ Films is changing the way economics is communicated. Through short videos and documentaries, we help clients take the latest cutting-edge research and thinking to a wider audience. Our clients include the United Nations, MIT, Yale, Oxford University, the London School of Economics, and HM Treasury and our work has featured on the BBC, Guardian, Independent, Daily Mail, Telegraph, Evening Standard and broadcasters on three continents.

We film across the globe - the UK, the US, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and all over Europe, reaching over twenty countries in all. We interview everyone from Prime Ministers to Nobel Prize winners and ordinary folk.

We're looking for a great filmmaker who shares our passion for economics to join our team in London Bridge.

What you will do:
• Take the lead as Director of Photography on most of our productions.
• As Producer-Director, see projects through from commission to delivery.
• Develop and pitch productions to clients, including broadcast.
• Research and develop relationships with potential new clients.
• Generate ideas for our new line of Econ Films 'original content'.

Requirements

You are:
• A great camera operator with vision and shooting credits for TV, film, commercials or high-end online platforms (e.g. Netflix, Vice). Familiarity with the C300 would be very useful.
• A great storyteller with an ability to turn complex material into gripping video content. You will have Producer or Director credits for similar outlets to the ones listed above.
• Excellent at dealing with clients. You will have had clients yourself and know how to make them delighted, excited and always coming back.
• A great pitcher who knows how to excite people and seal a deal.
• An ideas machine, brimming with new ways to turn economics into awesome video.
• Somewhat a geek, with a professional or academic background in social sciences, ideally economics.
• Editing skills and familiarity with the Adobe suite would be a huge advantage.
• A background in journalism or documentary could be useful.
• Completely fluent in English (another European or Asian language would be awesome).
• Right to work in the UK and passport permitting international business travel.
• Ideally, you can drive and have a vehicle.

What's in it for you?

• Salary of £40k p/a (plus commission based on winning work and growing the business).
• International travel.
• You will be joining a start-up culture and be part of a fast-growing adventure, building and developing experience in a creative team, based in London Bridge. We are a team of 8 with regular socials and brainstorming meetings.
• Twelve-month fixed term contract with potential to extend.

How to apply
Please apply with your CV, a showreel (or two examples of your work under 5 minutes) and a brief outline of your skills and experience (no more than two paragraphs please - you need to sell yourself as you would to a client).

Please include at least one suggestion for how you might grow the existing company. What could you bring?

Successful applicants will be invited along to two rounds of interviews and asked to complete a self-shooting exercise.

Interviews will take place on a rolling basis from early November with a view to starting asap and to prepare to fly out with our senior team for our launch in the USA - San Diego in the first week of January.
