Hiring range: £32,000 - £38,000

ITV Regional News

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It's a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in the heart of Westminster.. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

We have 2 exciting opportunities to join the Digital Hub for 12 months to help ensure our digital website content is produced and published at the highest level, and that it is accurate and compliant.

As Digital Content Producer, you'll be responsible for generating creative solutions to presenting content online. Enthusiasm, imagination and digital ideas are all essential as are the ability to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines. Your strong news sense and judgement will define you in this role.

You will be a qualified journalist with a real depth of written experience gained from working in a digital role within a news organisation over a number of years. As such, you will be able to demonstrate your journalistic skills, editorial judgement and digital knowledge, so that you make our news content engaging and relevant to our audience online. You will be an excellent communicator, used to remote working and a team player.

You'll understand how to research and write content with SEO in mind and you'll understand the difference between a headline written for search, social and our direct audience. You'll ensure that copy is accurate and brilliantly presented, with sharp writing, digital-focused headlines and making use of the best pictures, video and other multimedia assets.

Last year we launched our Diversity and Inclusion acceleration plan and you will be expected to play an active role in helping us achieve our aims to attract and then nurture talent from under-represented backgrounds, and telling stories with particular appeal to a diverse range of viewers.

Key responsibilities:

Ensuring that breaking news from multiple regional newsrooms is published in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborating with multiple newsrooms, including the national newsroom, so that regional stories are shared and the best content from our regions and nations is seen across all ITV.
Making our news content engaging and relevant to our audience online.
Playing an active role in telling stories with particular appeal to a diverse range of viewers.
Researching and writing content with SEO in mind.
Generating creative solutions to presenting content online.

Please note that this role involves working a shift pattern which includes working early and late shifts as well as some weekends and bank holidays.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

You will be a qualified journalist with a NCTJ qualification or equivalent.
Proven track record of dealing with breaking news and developing stories.
Proven experience of growing digital audiences for a daily news website.
Experience of producing high-quality, accurate and distinctive digital news to tight deadlines and under pressure.
A solid understanding of digital publishing including best use of SEO, social media and the ability to understand and act on Google Analytics data.
A confident decision maker with strong knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement.
A clear understanding Ofcom's standards, as any content produced by ITV must meet industry regulation.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

Experience in a television newsroom is preferred but not essential.
The ability to ensure copy is accurate and brilliantly presented, writing sharp, digital-friendly headlines and making use of the best pictures, video and other multimedia assets to drive engagement.
Experience of successfully working with multiple people and projects, with the ability to prioritise.
Evidence of putting equality and representation at the heart of everything you do.
Passionate about digital publishing.
The ability to bring fresh thinking and a different perspective to our team.
A creative thinker with the ability to work well under pressure demonstrating resilience & determination.
